Ok,
So, my life has been pretty hectic recently. I've decided to have a huge change of direction in my life and take a gap year. I was pretty against this as I was wanting to go to uni so badly. But, after going to Manchester and Sheffield Uni Open Days and finding out that it IS possible to do an Animal Science degree without an A-Level in Biology (I just need 40 credits on biology modules with the OU, which would cost a ridiculous £600). So, this has widened my options even more.
It seemed that I was pretty dead set on Clinical Psychology at Hull, but I recently learnt that the doctorate that is available (to apply to after 2 years of your BSc) is available to any student at Hull, York or Scarborough that is interested. This would mean potentially hundreds of applicants for just 14 places, of only which 7 are funded. So, even if I got onto the Doctorate, I'd have to pay for 7 years of uni, which I just don't think is possible in the climate that we are in right now.
So, like I said, this has left me thinking of a gap year, but I'd want to do paid work, rather than spending a couple of grand to go and volunteer in some poverty stricken country for a few weeks. I've read so much on internships, apprenticeships, work placements, au pair work, and the like, I feel like I'm drowning in options and I just don't know which is the right one. I've enquired at about 20 places, from Natural Science Museums in Philadelphia and Photography studios to Accountancy Firms and Web Design Companies. To be completely honest, I really don't know what a viable career for me would be.
Earlier in the year we did a centigrade questionnaire, which is about 200 questions, the kind you answer with 1 - 5, 1 being the least like you, and 5 being the most. The results were supposed to show what kind of career you'd be good at, based on your interests and ability. When I got mine back, I had 100% in several different areas (Media, Social, Animal, Medical, Business, etc), so, yeh, broad choices.
Basically, do I go to uni and do a degree? or Do I take a gap year and work? If so, work in England or the US? As an Au Pair, photographer or do I train to be an accountant? I just don't know :(
On a very good note, I had a call from my local vue cinema on Monday, who asked me to come in for an interview the next day after college. It lasted a good hour, as me and the boss started talking about the cinema, movies, etc. :). She said she'd let me know on Thursday after 4pm. So, after school today, I made sure my phone was full charged and had a loud ringtone, and was at hand while I drove home. 2 minutes into the journey I got the call, pulled over and she told me I'd got the job. Was well chuffed :D I've got my induction on Monday from 5pm till 10pm.
Also, to make things better in the short - term, I went shopping tonight at St.Stephens as it was late night shopping. Got some nice things, had a relaxing time and got some nice food from Tesco (Mushroom Stir Fry, noodles and fresh king prawns) which was very nice n.n Also got some oreos >_> haven't had them in ages.
And, on top of that, I've got my mum's penthouse in the centre of Hull (BBC building) for the weekend :), so it's looking like a good weekend.
