Scarlett's bad example

I'm still reading "Gone With the Wind" (I believe I started it in late May). Has anyone noticed how much this woman procrastinates? I know it's phrased in the "tomorrow is another day" optimism of not letting shit get you down, but still... she puts off a lot of stuff. Anyway, I've been Scarlett-esque lately with the class I'm taking. So today after work/class, I have to start in on the 4 30-page chapters and 60-page reserve reading packet I've been neglecting the past couple of weeks. Captain Butler, take me away.

So that's what I'm doing today. But really, who cares about that when you can read about chicklet_girl's

Friday night - everyone, save my sister and aunt who must have gotten lost or something, arrived at the cabin around 7:30-8 p.m. My cousin and his sig other cooked a big vat of spaghetti and meatballs for our carbo load dinner (cousin, sister and I had a race the next morning).

Saturday - The Okoboji 10K started at 9:00 a.m. (from the Methodist Camp!) and followed the beautiful Lake Shore Drive to Arnold's Park (this fabulous lakes institution - a Coney Island-style small scale amusement park). It was Sis' first race and she finished with flying colors. Literally; she flew right past us on the straight-away to the finish line. Chicklet, Mr. Jordan and a bunch of other relatives too numerous to list met us there and we all rode the roller coaster before heading back to the cabin to hang out in the sun (me, Chicklet and cousin's sig other) or nap (everyone else) the rest of the day. Highlight - discussing baby names on the dock as we got steadily drunker on Mike's Hard Lemonade and Summit Pale Ale.

We had a great bonfire that night, complete with some ghost stories and s'mores. The sleeping arrangements were a little wonky, what with 11 of us and 2 bedrooms, but we somehow worked it out. There was a little controversy surrounding my brother and his 16-year old girlfriend taking the camping mattress together (he's 18), but they really didn't have another choice and it wasn't my problem anyway.

Oh, I forgot to mention the drenching Chicklet got on the boat when we were tubing. It was a little choppy on the lake. I hope she won't hold it against me.

Sunday we relaxed. It was rainy in the morning, so we went to the Iowa Lakes Maritime Museum, which is free and always fascinating. We bought some University of Okoboji tourist wear (which I will be returning on the next trip because the printing on my t-shirt is off-center) and by the time we finished lunch, the sun was shining again. Poor Chicklet wasn't feeling too well (we think she may have gotten too much sun), but I'm proud to say she enjoyed the Birthday Pie I made for her! Unless she was just being nice...*g*.

All in all, a wonderful weekend. I'm so glad Chicklet was able to make it and I hope she can come again sometime.
