It's always hot as hell, or raining Noah's flood. Either way, it's not the kind of weather for working outdoors. Unfortunately, working outdoors is pretty much all there is. And as Kate loves to remind him, there's always work to be done.
Sawyer's been slaving in the heat all morning - except for that brief break of torrential rain. He took his shirt off to wipe the sweat and dirt outta his hair - too bad it got soaked in the downpour. Now he's just hot, sweaty, sticky and irate.
“Freckles, I wanna speak to your supervisor,” he complains. “These conditions are a violation of occupational safety standards. An' I'm pretty sure I ain't even getting paid.”
Kate wipes the sweat off her brow - smearing her forehead with dirt. “This'd go a lot faster if you didn't stop to complain every five minutes,” she says.
He swings his axe down hard, slicing an entire bamboo log in half with one blow. Then, heads back for another, cursing under his breath. “I ain't never helping you out again, you hear?”
Kate grins at him, bearing all of her broad white teeth. She's got a hell of a smile. “Yes you will,” she says.
Yes, he will. He knows he will. He's pretty sure he'd do almost anything for this girl. And that scares the hell outta him.
“Do I at least get to see you naked after this?” he asks.
Kate doesn't even look up to reply. “Get back to work, Sawyer.”
He smirks and does what he's told.
