Real world-- week one

Just finished day three at my first job. I've toured the town I'm covering for the paper and introduced myself to about 50 people Whew! I didn't know it could be so exhausting. The drawback of covering a small town: I have to be really creative about news stories if there aren't scheduled meetings, everyone knows me and takes what I write personally (already figured this out), they all think they know how I should do my job, the big issue for my first story was converting signs to LED technology. The nice parts: everyone knows me and so far they are friendly, it is easy to track people down, everyone knows everyone else's business, people are very involved in the town development plans.

The town I'm covering has a population around 9,000 and sits right on the bay. The old town is my favorite part of the area.

As far as living here-- it is a developing, at times sleepy, Southern area near the beach. Who could ask for anything more? I just hope there is some fantastic hard news that I get to cover. There's this dock on the bay (queue Otis Redding...) where I take Veda when I get off work for a stroll. Today we arrived just as the sky was filled with pastel variations of orange, yellow, red and purple. As we walked the pier, I noticed a dolphin fin breaking the wave. There was a pod of about five of them swimming around. They swished their way over to where I was standing and started splashing their fins. Maybe they were saying hello? Wow! Talk about putting me into a good mood after work.
