The difference

Since it was called so early, I have been watching the speeches. I was very impressed by McCain's concession speech. He was far more gracious than I ever expected him to be, which made me feel a little better about him still being part of the US Senate.

The thing that I noticed that struck me as pointing out the difference between the parties, and the campaigns, was the audiences. When McCain mentioned Obama, his followers booed, and had to be quieted. When Obama mentioned McCain, his followers applauded. I know it is easier to be gracious (even as a mob) in victory than in defeat, but I can't believe that Obama supporters would boo McCain, even if the situation were reversed.

I've never been terribly invested in politics. I have had a hard time believing in the system as it stands today. Or at least as it stood yesterday. It probably stands in the same place, but I have to admit my faith is somewhat restored, if only by the margin, the decisiveness of the outcome.

Of course, this does mean I have to avoid my father and all his family for at least a month or two.
