A little knowledge is a dangerous thing

So I'm taking this class in Construction Estimating. Pretty much just for my own knowledge, not aiming for anything in particular. We had a homework exercise due today that was basically "Given scenario X, should your company submit a bid for project Y?" The instructor took a poll of people's answers, and the result amused me greatly.

There were roughly 25 people in class today, and about 20 of them said Yes, the company should submit a bid. The 5 people with any construction experience at all (including me) all said No. Though the prof wouldn't commit to an answer (and really, the answer is totally subjective,) I'm reasonably certain he agreed with the No group, and was equally amused by the majority answer.
