So, it was pointed out to me that I never actually said what my new job *is*. I am the Senior (and only, heh) Interior Designer in the Office of Classroom Management at the UofMN. We are in charge of all the general purpose classrooms on campus (Mpls and StP), and my job is going to involve space-planning, finish and furniture research and selection, project management of renovations, and standards development for the U. It's a little trippy to realize that this is a real, grown-up job where I will be in charge of things that students interact with on a daily basis. I was hired because of things that I know that the rest of the people in my dept *don't* know, so it's pretty much the deep end of the pool. It's also very odd to go from being a student at the U to being an employee there so quickly. It's like I was on summer break and just went back to a different set of classes, but not really. It does and doesn't help that they simply kept my student login and e-mail address, so I don't have to learn a new one but there's no division between then and now.
My office is in Williamson Hall, which (if you're familiar with the U) is the one that goes down into the ground rather than up and used to have the bookstore before Coffman was redone. At the end of next week, we're actually moving across the hall into the old bookstore space, which is being renovated for us. My "cube" in the mean time is simply a table outside someone else's cube, with no storage or workspace, but it'll only be for another week. No one else really has any storage either, as all the cabinets were sent out for repainting a couple of weeks ago, and we're all living out of bookcarts. Once we move across the hall I'll actually have a very large space, with a layout/drafting table and library shelving for catalogs and such. I'm looking forward to the move, at which point I should really be getting involved in projects.
