Writer's Block question: Do you have a strange and obscure talent? What is it?

Mutant talent: can spot typos from 20 paces.

It makes the monkey crazy. I'll walk through the living room without slowing, and as I pass by I'll say "you've got an extra space in the first line of that third paragraph. And down at the bottom you spelled his name Barrack, not Barack - he's not a military dorm ( Read more... )

*laugh* Do you do that at work, too? People give the strangest stares when you say "I know it's Arial so you can't tell, but there are two spaces right there".

I can only do it at one or two paces, though, so it is a lesser talent.

(edit) And as for a different strange and obscure talent, I can usually tell when a car is going to turn at an intersection or go straight, with about 70% accuracy. Perhaps it is not a strange or obscure talent, though, since reading car body language seems pretty easy.

I'm the same way, in English, French and Spanish, though I'm dramatically better in English. I know enough French and Spanish to identify inadequate movie subtitles, and believe me, there are a lot of them, but I don't think I'd enjoy a French or Spanish movie if there were no subtitles at all.

I have strange moments of clarity when I'm totally calm in which the answer to whatever problem that is before me, no matter what the problem is or who it belongs to, suddenly becomes totally obvious. In fact, it usually happens only with other peoples' problems nad not mine.
And I can pick out winning scratch-off lottery tickets with a 100% success rate. Unfortunately, I keep winning $1 & $2 winners.

Yeah, I do that too. I'm an English major who likes to break things, so I became a technical writer.
