Getting over a cold and through the rest...

This is the beginning of my 3rd week in Scotland, and things have gotten a little harder. Black people are definitely scarce here...I knew there wouldn't be many, but I guess I was still expecting a bit more than this. And so of course there are people who stare a bit too hard or too long. Others nudge their friends as I pass. I was even called out to by some drunk guys in a rude way. It's strange; it goes beyond being the subject of mild curiosity...I feel more like a carni or a zoo animal. I can't find certain things that I need b/c I guess they figure they don't really need to cater to such a small minority in certain respects. It's been more difficult than I thought, wrapping my head around this. It's kind of hard to keep my confidence up.

I'm starting to miss being at home and at my university more. Things are just done in more of a roundabout way here. You can't sign up for classes online - you have to physically go and sign up for them with the professor. Also, there aren't multiple time slots for classes, so you just have to sign up for them and hope that none of them overlap. The dorm room plugs are situated on opposite ends of the room, and my little mini bathroom area (the sink and mirror) are smack in the middle, so I can't flat iron my hair or anything unless I wanna do it blind and burn myself (b/c the cords aren't long enough to reach the mirror). And forget about plugging in a hair dryer; mine blew the outlet up as soon as I plugged it in (and it wasn't even turned on :P). And if you DO manage to plug yours in without an explosion, you shouldn't use your hair dryer anyway b/c the fire alarm could go off.

It's a lot to get used to.

I realize how good I have it in the US. I actually feel a bit spoiled by it after spending time here. An exchange of all the good ideas that each country has would be amazing. For example, here you have to pay to use plastic bags in many stores (so you don't use/waste as much plastic), which I think is a good idea. Each country could benefit a lot from one another.

The cabs here are clean, roomy and inexpensive. In fact, most things here are relatively inexpensive. Yes, the pound is worth more than the dollar, but things cost less here. It's been so much easier for me to save my money! Except when it comes to travel :P There are so many places I want to go while I'm here. I have easy access to so many other countries now, and there's also a lot to see in Scotland. I'm going to Arran Isle this saturday, which should be fun. I'm also going to London next Friday. Hopefully I'll get to see some shows and cool historical sites like the Globe Theatre while I'm there. I really need a new camera!!!! >:O

My cold is starting to go away! W00T!

... and I'll try to lessen the gap between posts next time.

Seeya!
