All I can say: it's about time...
For the most part that’s fantastic, the only downsides being my allergy and that I am battling armies of wasps. I will have to talk to my landlord tomorrow since there seems to be a nest somewhere on the roof. I had to deal with this once before in London, however unlike there I am not able to install nets at my windows in order to keep them out :-(
Other than that I fled Hamburg and
Evangelischen Kirchentag today (after braving the related traffic for three days prior) and headed for the
Altes Land (literally meaning “the Old Country”). It’s one of Germany’s major fruit plantation areas so right now it feels like bathing in cherry blossoms. My first stop was
Buxtehude, known to most people due to the fairytale of “the hare and the hedgehog”. What I find most intriguing about this little town is how it integrates old and new architecture.
Afterwards I headed to the Blossom Festival in
Jork, where the
blossom queen is crowned and instead of throwing candy you are handed delicious apples during the parade. Next to traditional costumes the parade als sported old vehicles. My personal favourite was the tiniest fire truck I had ever seen :-)
