I finally decided on Columbia for grad school-- I'm sending in my "no, thanks" to Rutgers as we speak. As excited as I am, I'm also freaked out by how this reality is going to change my life in such a short period of time. Abby and I and my lil bro (hopefully) will be getting a place in JC soon, and I'll become a commuter, "lil me in the big ol'

2) You are doing the right thing. I don't buy into the whole notion that you can't know if it is/was right until later... Our lives/personalities are merely a series of experiences that define who we are and shape how we develop. Even painful decisions, or decisions that make our lives a bit more difficult allow us to learn about ourselves and thus allow us to avoid the painful decisions in the future.
3) I have found that as your original "safety net" becomes further away, you discover what kind of safety net you have, and it is generally surprising.. in a good way. Your safety net expands in ways you did not think possible. I have not lived near my folks in 10 years, and now my safety net stretches from South & Central Texas, Missouri, Oregon, Northern & Southern California, New Jersey and now DC...and as I continue to move around the country I am sure it will simply continue to grow. You guys have all turned into my extended safety net.
