Lost All Respect for Mel

Jul 12, 2010 23:22

I haven't given much attention to the whole Mel Gibson scandal.  It isn't the first time he's uttered racial slurs.  And he certainly isn't the first celebrity to threaten someone.  I figured it was just a lot of Hollywood hype.

However, I took the time to listen to the recording tonight.  Of all the things that spewed from his mouth, one part struck me beyond all others.

Oksana: .... Breaking her teeth twice in the face! What kind of man is that?

Mel: Oh, you’re all angry now! You know what, you f* cking deserved it!

Listen at RadarOnline

From the beginning of my memory, my mother wore a bridge for her two false teeth.  When I asked what happened , she answered, very factually, that  my father (whom she had left when I was 2) had knocked them out.  She never said why.

Years later, I met my father and found him to be a very bitter man.  During my last phone conversation with him, he was being ugly and berating as usual.  He kept saying he had never hurt my mother and she had no reason to take me away from him.

"So, if you never hurt her, what about her teeth?  I know that hurt!"  I was angry that he was so blind to all the hurt he had caused her, both mentally and physically.  (He was an abusive alcoholic.)

And his response, ever so clear and without any remorse was... "She deserved it."
I asked why and his response was "she wouldn't shut her mouth."

I don't know if Mel is losing his marbles and sincerely needs a doctor and medication, or if he is simply an ugly man full of hate like he sounds.  Either way, I have lost all respect for the man.  it is a shame too cause he had some really great movies.

I doubt very seriously that he has been this way all along.  I just don't see how he could have hidden it for this long.  but something has certainly "pushed him over the edge."
