Sherlock Holmes 2009

There was nothing in this movie that I didn't love! Or maybe there was but I was enjoying the movie too much to pay any notice.

I went to the cinema expecting some homoerotic subtext and maybe a joke about Holmes and Watson behaving like an old married couple, but it would be an affront to centuries of finely crafted subtext to describe Holmes and Watson's relationship in the movie in such terms. I now know what Guy Ritchie meant when he had congratulated Downey and Law for managing a few tidbits of almost-heterosexulity into their performances. (Although I think they had edited even those scenes out because I couldn't find any.)

The weirdest thing about the movie as a whole was just how Sherlock Holmes-like it felt. It was obviously unlike any previous adaption, but the characters and the storyline felt oddly right. And I grew up with Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke's Holmes and Watson, who couldn't be further away from Guy Ritchie's vision.

The minor characters were awesome. Constable Clark better show up in the fic.

There was unexpected!Hans Matheson! Well at least he was a surprise for me. Oh, I love him. Especially when he is evil.

Is it just me or is Jude Law ridiculously hot with a moustache and a bowler hat? I've loved him since Gattaca, but he has always been too pretty for me to find him hot. ("Doctor Hotson", lol.) Robert Downey Jr is by default hot, so I'm not even going to comment on him.
