I went to The Hague today to look at some canals and windmills. There really are plenty. Once I was there, I walked straight to the Mauritshuis museum which has its walls covered with Rembrandts, Rubenses, van Dycks and Vermeers. Have now seen both "The Anatomy Lesson" and "The Girl with a Pearl Earring". The latter really didn't look at all like Scarlett Johansson.

I want to kiss whoever is responsible for getting Robert Carlyle to step (or roll) through the stargate. Dr Nicholas Rush is unlike any Stargate lead so far, and this is good. But I guess they did need a character like Rush, played by a great actor, when they decided to go for the gritty realism of Battlestar.

I have to say I really enjoyed SGU. At least up until the two timelines merged. Then it started to get boring.

Stranded in space, in a galaxy (really) far, far away. But unlike in SGA the people stranded are not a voluntary expedition. These people want to get back home which creates a totally different atmosphere. They are not explorers, they are not looking for adventures or a new home, somewhere to belong. Apart maybe from Dr Rush. The sad thing is, I really didn't care at all about their attempts to get back to Earth. Maybe because I found it so difficult to care about the characters yet. There were so many of them they were bound to stay quite two-dimensional. We had some flashbacks, but nothing special.

Chloe the Senator's daughter was incredibly annoying. Partly because of that I'm curious about what they're going to do with her character. I didn't really care about Eli at all, but he was a lot less annoying than in the trailer. Alaina Huffman as T.J. was amazing. The fact that she looks like Charlize Theron was a tad distracting but she definitely can act. Imdb tells me she was in season 8 of Smallville. Do I actually need to watch that now?

There were so many ships tailored into the show I couldn't really make myself interested in any of them. Okay, apart from Dr. Rush and Col. Young because you can't have a Stargate show without a military/science ship, right? The fact that Lt. Scott was literally 'assigned' to pair up with Eli didn't really make the ship any more interesting. When they give it to you on a platter, they also take away the joy of queering the text. No fun.

SGU was far from perfect but it looks like I have another scifi show to watch on my Saturday mornings.

In conclusion: ROBERT CARLYLE ♥♥♥!

Tomorrow I'm going to Antwerp for a Tori Amos concert. OMG SO EXCITED.
