Spring has come to West Texas, and with it, our usual assortment of really terrifying bugs. This afternoon, I was cleaning out the cat boxes in the front room when I noticed a really freaky-looking bug on one of the window screens, between the screen and the closed window. It was almost spidery-looking, but counted 6 legs. I tried to get a closer look but the front windows are kind of thick, so I scooted the window back a little to see just what the hell this thing was. It was crawling down the screen and looking mostly harmless, so I reached out to poke it and said, "You're a weird-looking little fellow, aren't y--"
And that's when it spread a set of wings and flew right into my face.
I flailed back, tripped over the cat box, narrowly missed crashing into my bookshelf, flailing and shrieking as I tried to get the thing away from my face. It took off out the front door when I opened it, and hopefully its on its way back to hell where it no doubt came from.
Moral of the story? Never judge a Texas bug by its cover.
