Rosenfest 2007 Comes to an End

Apr 29, 2007 11:27

Welcome to the final day of Rosenfest 2007! I'd like to close out the week with a brief review of Kickin it Old Skool, which I had the pleasure of viewing on Friday evening with my Sissy, Jax.
I have to admit, I probably would have seen this movie even if Michael had not been in it because like him, I am a child of the 80's, and just the references they made to all the music and pop culture was a lot of fun for those who remember the era.  Michael being there was just the icing on the cake, really!
Since I didn't become a die-hard fan of Michael's until around season Four of Smallville, I had never seen Michael on the big screen. I think that was the best thing about this movie . . . seeing him bigger than life like that really brought out the fangirl in me! I kept squeeing every time he showed up, LOL.
As for Kip Unger, this character is really nothing new for Michael.  Kip reminded me very much of the role Michael played in the episode "Gun Fever" of the series "It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia."  This was very much the same kind of guy- the womanizing, bling-wearing smart-ass who thinks he's better than everyone else.  He was a great foil for the childlike Jamie Kennedy, and after watching him, I got the feeling that a lot of his lines were ad-lib, and that he didn't have to work too hard at what he was doing.  I could tell that this role was a lot of fun for him to play.  And it seems like that's exactly what he was doing was playing.
The movie itself was pretty cute . . . some silly parts, some cute parts, and actually I found myself laughing a lot at most of it.  I also enjoyed the music, which was all very nostalgic for me.  Overall, I'd say if you like Jamie Kennedy, Michael, and the 80's, you'll probably enjoy this film.  The critics panned it, as I expected they would, but there's actually quite a lot about this movie to enjoy.  When it joins my DVD collection, I'll probably put it in terms of preference as not as likeable as Sorority Boys, but more watchable than Cursed or Urban Legend.  (And I pray for a commentary with Michael, he's so good at them!)

Well my Rosen-buds, it's been a fun week! We've taken a look at all the elements of what makes Michael such a wonderful man, and I hope you've all had a great time.  I want to thank you all for your wonderful comments, and to thank some people and sites without whom none of this would have been possible! Call Me Flash; Dedicated to Michael Rosenbaum would like to thank:

Both the University of Texas at El Paso and El Paso Community College, whose high-speed wireless made it quick and easy to upload and post the photos used this week.

All of my friends over at the "Michael Rosenbaum,Occupation: Actor" forums over at TelevisionWithoutPity.com for their support, encouragement, and friendship.  You guys always manage to brighten my day while at the same time allowing me to indulge in my obsession, and for that, I thank each and every one of you. You're awesome!

My co-workers and family for their support, suggestions and encouragement. (A special thanks to my husband, for his patience and support of both my college career and my diversions from said career.  Love you, babe!)

My best bud and Sissy Jax, for suggestions and support, both technical and moral, and for the constant and thorough exercise of my very active muses.  *Throws kisses*

Everyone here at LiveJournal, where I've made some great new friends.

And of course, I'd like to extend a very special thanks to Michael Rosenbaum himself.  I think the world would be a little less brighter without his energy, his talent, his warmth and generousity.  For those qualities, I will always hold him close to my heart, and feel a great affection for him that goes far beyond the physical.

This concludes Rosenfest 2007.  Don't forget to watch Michael Thursday, May 3d on the Craig Ferguson Show and then on Friday, May 4th, on Last Call with Carson Daly! And stay tuned to this LJ for commentary of those shows, Smallville and more. Until then, my Rosen-peeps, fangirl hard, fangirl proud!
