Queer as Fic (Book Rec)

For anyone who enjoys reading queer fiction, I recommend the "Rainbow Boys" series by Alex Sanchez.  I've only read the first book so far, (there are three,) but so far I've really enjoyed it.

The storyline follows the lives of three gay teens, Kyle, Jason, and Nelson.  Nelson is openly out, but Kyle and Jason are just starting to wrestle with who they are, and they fear the future, as they aren't sure how to come out to their family and friends.  The characters are highly developed and not just stereotypes of gay young men; they are multi-layered and you really come to care about each of them as they struggle to survive high school and understand what it means to be gay.  It's a really great series.  Book one is Rainbow Boys, book two is Rainbow High, and Book Three is Rainbow Road. Sometimes it's hard to find queer lit without it bitch-slapping you in the face with its message, and that's one thing I like about this book.  It's written with humor and warmth, and although the message is there, it doesn't fall out of the sky like a two-ton anvil and hit you on the head.  Pick it up if you can!
