I really had to think a lot about Denna and where her most guarded weaknesses lie. What else could be taken from her? She has a thirst for pain so it had to go beyond that. Just when she’s sure she has nothing left to lose...I would be such a horrible Mistress, right?! Omg! I scared myself a little as I got to know Denna better.
She knows their fear and weakness buttons and she can threaten them but she doesn’t comprehend love and humanly selfless not everything is about a sisterhood and their codex. There are some other things she forgot that exist. Exactly XD Cara definitely has some of Snake‘s qualities. Nature vs. Nuture at it’s finest. But yeah, Snake was their Mistress, and she feels she bent them to her will. You’re so right, what a lonely feeling for Denna...knowing that she could‘ve possibly been in Dahlia’s place for Cara’s favor if Snake had truly wanted or felt she "deserved" that. It’s something to think about it and I think those kind of things torture Denna the most.
Ok, lol don’t judge me too harshly for this but I totally love the 2002 'The Time Machine' remake. There’s this one scene when the Morlock leader confronts the Time Traveler, Alexander, who is torturing himself about why he can’t change the past and save his love. The Morlock leader says, "You think I don't know you...? I can look inside your memories, your nightmares, your dreams. You're a man haunted by those two most terrible words: what if?" I LOVE THAT! I think most people are probably like that and Denna would be no exception, especially in her current state of lonliness and hopelessness. Snake knows how to exploit these things flawlessly and feels she can recreate Denna as many times as she desires. Btw, also, there’s another awesome quote from that awesome Morlock: We all have our time machines, don't we? Those that take us back are memories... It's such a tragic waste of all her abilities. She has no real connections to anyone other than Dahlia and yet still prefered to hurt her the most.

It really melts me :D I mean, for Snake to have trained Cara and Dahlia, all you have to do is look at the end result of them and you know she had to be amazingly thorough and good in a very twisted and emotional way. They're not mindless weapons and they definitely retained such uniqueness and individuality. I believe they definitely had to be taught about teamwork and the "greater good" in order to function so seamlessly together. I just love how even when Cara was on trial for life, she remained loyal and protective of her Mistress and even when Cara learned the truth about her father, she didn't hate her for it. So completely complex...definitely my kind of thing.
