So, Yea, It's Been a While

I thought about sitting down to write a really long post about everything that's happened to me over the past month, since I've basically kept you in the dark the whole time, but now that I think about it, I'm probably going to wait until I'm older to write my first book.

Seriously, I've been that busy.

I will, however, give a brief summary of the events that have taken place in the month of January. I'll begin where I left off--New York. So, I got New York safely (obviously), and I had an absolutely incredible week. It was great to see Lauren again--I missed her a ton--and spending the week in New York was really cool. I ended up spending almost every day in the city, including three days dressed up in a suit for meetings, site visits, and networking receptions. I even got to meet some really cool people--including some corporate vice presidents of both Sirius Satellite Radio and Epic Records (yea, frickin' awesome). Also while I was in New York, I got to meet all of Lauren's friends, visit a lot of the places I'd heard so much about, and eat a ton of the foods that Lauren goes on and on about all the time, aha ;-)

So, one week later, we were back here at AU, getting settled in and preparing for our new classes to start up. Now that they have, I can honestly say that I really like all of my classes this semester--Japanese is basically the same, Social Forces That Shaped America is an awesome class (there's only nine of us in there), Financial Accounting isn't nearly as bad as I'd expected (the professor is actually really cool), Microeconomics is way better than Macroeconomics was, and Understanding Mass Media is actually pretty fascinating, and we've got a cool professor to boot. So, classes = good. Everything else at AU = fantastically amazing. As if last semester wasn't good enough, it seems like this semester is almost determined to be better. Now that I've got all the amazing friends that I do, the incredible girlfriend that I'm so lucky to have, and all the great connections, activities, etc. going on, I find that I'm always busy, always having fun, and always learning something new. I'm even adding a few new things to my resume this semester--I'm now in a couple of leadership positions in Ambassadors (I'm a tour time leader--meaning I'm in charge of a tour time slot each week--and an editor for the Ambassador Newsletter now), I'm in a team for the Kogod Case Competition (basically a competition of business presentations, taking place next week), and I've got not one, but actually two jobs now. I'm continuing my work at the AU Phonathon, which isn't particularly awesome, but provides a little extra cash which is always good. And then what I'm really excited about--I'm doing marketing and PR for a private tutoring firm here in DC. It's a new company, so it's still pretty small, but I love what I've talked to my boss about so far, and I can't wait to get started--speaking of which, that's tomorrow! The job involves a bit of a commute out to Greenbelt, but it could be worse--it'll be great experience, and it's going to pay well!

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, I'm joining a fraternity. But don't freak out, it's not your traditional social fraternity--this is Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional, co-ed business fraternity. Basically, it eliminates all the nonsense usually associated with social fraternities and replaces it with networking and business skills, as well as philanthropy, community service, and a good social atmosphere among business students. It looks like it will be a lot of fun, and should be a great asset as I look to start my career, etc.

The first weekend we were back at AU, a bunch of us (Lauren, Amara, Kim, Rosie, and I) all went down to Charlottesville to Amara's house and spent the weekend (since we had Monday off for MLK day). It was a ton of fun, spent some time out in the country--let the city-slickers see some cows, and overall just had a great time.

Since then, it's been all about the work and stuff going on at AU pretty much. Obviously we've all been following the election pretty closely (GO OBAMA), and that's exciting I suppose. This weekend, Lauren and I are headed back to Charlottesville for a weekend away, so to speak, before the craziness-that-is-the-rest-of-February is upon us.

February, like I said, is crazy. We've got the university president's inauguration next Friday, the Founder's Ball that night (at the Italian Embassy, frickin' sweet), and then my birthday and the Kogod Case Competition are the next day (what great timing... ack). The next week is Valentine's of course, so we've got some plans for that, and then Lauren's parents are coming in for the weekend and we're going to see a play that one of Lauren's brothers is performing in (should be really cool). The weekend after that is Lauren's birthday, which is exciting, and I'm sure we'll find something to do for that. The NEXT weekend, I can't think of what's going on, but chances are something will come up, because that's just how things work around here.

SO. That basically sums it up. NOW, maybe in another month I'll actually have some pictures up for you to look at from all of this. But we'll see.

Sorry again for the lack of updates, I'll try to do better :)
