After having breakfast, Donna had decided to call in sick to work that day - but she wasn't ill. No, she was inspired to work on the recipes for some of her cakes, and she figured that with an empty house for the rest of the day that it would be a nice surprise for her housemates when they all arrived back home. She had the wireless on, and was singing along with the music as she took another cake out of the oven and waited for it to cool before she sampled it.

Ingram was used to being the first one home after work, but when he let himself inside, he was surprised to hear the wireless. Walking into the kitchen, he grinned and stood in the doorway, watching Donna.

Donna was so focused on what she was doing that it took her a while to notice that she had company, and she nearly dropped the plate she was holding when she noticed him. "...Oh, gods! You surprised me!" she exclaimed.

"I didn't think you'd be home," Ingram replied, laughing at her.

"Yeah, I sort of took a personal day..."

"To bake cakes? Best personal day ever," Ingram told her.

"I know, right? But...if anyone from work ever mentions it, I was getting over a cold!"

"You bet you were," he smirked.

Donna coughed. "See, look, I'm nearly all better! and... oh darn, there's no point in going in, now!"

"Damn those five hour colds," Ingram said, moving to kiss her hello.

"I'm not contagious, I promise," she told him, giggling.

"No? I was hoping for a sick day tomorrow myself," he told her with a grin.

"Well, the day's not over yet, I might relapse..."

"Into another fit of baking?"

Donna glanced around. "Uh, well... I'm going to have to find some extra room, if that's the case-"

Ingram laughed. "Okay, maybe not that."

"Or I can get my favourite taste-tester to get rid of a little bit of it for me..."

"Are you trying to fatten me up?" Ingram asked suspiciously.

Giggling, Donna poked him in the stomach. "Maybe?"

He pouted. "Why would you do that?"

"Then again, I have been feeding you well for the past couple of years and you still look the exact same," Donna mused.

"Just lucky that!" Ingram told her.

"Yeah, I kind of hate you for that..."

"Don't worry. I'm sure that I'll be old, fat, and bald soon," he told her with a grin.

"Oh gods, I hope not!" Donna said, giggling again. "I love your hair," she added, lightly running her fingers through it.

"Me too," Ingram replied with a pout. "I'd like to keep it!"

"You'll be fine," Donna assured him.

"Will you still love me?" Ingram asked, wrapping his arms around her. "Even if I'm fat and bald?

"Yeah, I think I could find it in me," Donna teased him.

"Because you're a bloody saint," Ingram told her.

"Oh stop, I'm not that good-" Donna insisted, blushing faintly.

"You took a day off to bake cakes," Ingram replied.

"I have a lot of vacation time I haven't used!"

"Why not?" Ingram asked,

"Well, I haven't really felt the need to go anywhere-"

Ingram wiggled his eyebrows. "I know a place you could go."

She giggled at that. "Later, I promise!"

He grinned. "I like those kind of promises."

"And before the others get home!"

"Shagging in the afternoon? That is almost as good as surprise cake," Ingram told her.

"Oh, it'll be better than surprise cake," Donna told him, smirking a little.

"Yeah?"

"Trust me!"

"I do!" Ingram insisted, stealing a kiss.

"But we can definitely also have cake if you want!"

"After," he nodded. "Definitely after."

"Okay, because in all seriousness I do have a couple of new kinds for you to try."

"Yeah? What kind?" Ingram asked.

"These ones over here," Donna said, pointing to the space on the counter. "But that's the beauty of surprise cake," she added, grinning. "You get to tell me what you think they are."

"It's not like...sardine cake or something, is it?"

She had to laugh. "Nothing gross like that, don't worry!"

"Promise?" Ingram eyed her suspiciously.

"You have my word!"

"Okay...I'll trust you..."

Donna kissed him again. "Excellent decision."

"You haven't let me down yet!"

"Exactly my point!"

"And your cakes are always so good," Ingram grinned.

"I did promise everyone when I moved in to keep a solid supply of desserts on hand..."

"And you've outdone yourself today," Ingram replied.

"Well, I guess this is what happens when I have an entire day to work on it!"

"There's almost enough for each of us to have one for ourselves!"

"And lots of flavours to choose from," Donna added.

"Lots?" Ingram asked.

"Well, none of these cakes are alike!"

"Do they have more than one flavor per cake?" Ingram asked, moving away from her to look them over.

"A couple of them do!"

"I want one of those," Ingram grinned.

"Well, lucky you, you get first choice!"

"It's a good thing I sleep with the baker!"

Donna started to giggle again. "In this case, it definitely works in your favour."

He slipped his arm around her waist. "It always works in my favour."

"Oh, so you love me for more than just my baking skills?" she teased him.

"Maybe just a little," he said, kissing her forehead.

"Well, that's promising!"

"I also love you for a lot of reasons," Ingram told her.

"Yeah, I know," Donna replied, grinning.

"Good," he replied. "Then I'm a good boyfriend?"

"The absolute best!"

He grinned. "Good to know!"

"I moved in with you, didn't I?"

Ingram pulled her close. "Best decision ever."

"Yeah, I definitely have no regrets..."

"I'm glad to hear that," Ingram said, untying her apron behind her back with a grin.

"Oh, I see where this is going," Donna remarked, giggling a little again.

"Oh yeah?"

"You've got your hands partway under my shirt already, I think it's obvious-"

"They were cold?" Ingram tried to look innocent.

"And how many times have I heard that?"

"I just have really cold hands," he insisted. "And you are really warm!"

"I have basically been in the kitchen all day with the oven going," Donna replied, grinning.

"You're always hot," he returned her grin.

"Are you saying that just to get me upstairs quicker?" she asked, giggling.

"Is it working?" Ingram asked, wiggling his eyebrows.

"Maybe..."

"Well, it's true..."

Donna leaned in to kiss him again, briefly. "Let's go."

"Yes m'am!" Ingram grinned.

"Just let me make sure all of the appliances and things are off, first-"

"Gilly'll kill us if we burn the place down..."

"Exactly why I'm doing this check!"

"Too bad no kitchen sex," Ingram sighed.

Donna blushed a little at that. "We do share it with other people, you know."

"I know," he sighed again. "And Gilly would kill us."

"And I kind of want to avoid getting on her bad side, thank you very much!"

"Me too," Ingram agreed.

"So we're going to have to stick to the bedroom for now!"

"Which is all ours," he grinned.

"It is!" Donna slipped her hand into his and started to lead them to the stairs.

"Afternoon shags are brilliant," he smirked.

Donna giggled again. "And it's been far too long."

"Since it happened during the week definitely," Ingram agreed.

"Well, I'm generally at work during this time, so-"

"I know," Ingram smirked.

"Anyway," Donna started. "Enough of this talking business," she said, tugging him up the stairs.

"Yes m'am!" He said, following her upstairs with a grin.
