Last time we saw him, Seaman (Mitarai) had been taken to Yusuke's apartment for healing and interrogation. Mitarai explains to Yusuke, Kurama, Genkai, Botan and Kuwabara about the Black tape and about Sensui's plans. From the screen, Koenma explains who Sensui once was: Yusuke's predecessor as the spiritual world detective, protecting the human world from the demons; and how he changed after seeing the horrors some humans inflicted on the demons just for fun. He was such a serious and responsible person, that his character went from one extreme to another. That is why, Koenma says, this time they chose someone as irresponsible and happy-go-lucky as Yusuke as a detective.
Just when Koenma says that Sensui won't stop at nothing once he's set for a target, Yusuke and Kurama sense something...
Sensui!
With Sniper:
Kuwabara immediately senses the danger to Mitarai...
...And runs to protect him from Sniper's dice bullets.
Forgetting all about Mitarai's injuries.
Sensui had known from the beginning that Mitarai would fall and they'd take pity on him, so he'd attached a microphone and has heard all they've said. Yusuke and Kuwabara run to face him in the street. Mitarai tells Botan to stop them, because Sensui already knows that Kuwabara is the man they were looking for to break into the next dimension. In the street, Sensui confirms to Sniper that their new mission is to capture Kuwabara and kill everybody else.
This is how Sensui gang stands at the moment:
Gatekeeper Itsuki, in the cave, working on breaking the barrier.
Doctor, in police custody, already planning his escape.
Seaman, injured at Yusuke's, and confused after being spared and helped by Kuwabara, is wondering whether he should keep following Sensui.
Dark Angel Sensui and Sniper, ready for war. The first target is Kuwabara.
Game master and Gourmet, awaiting their turn.
In the street, Sensui fights Yusuke one-on-one and at some point he kicks a spiritual-energy ball towards Yusuke's apartment.
That was the agreed signal for the rest of their gang to join forces. Enter Game master and Gourmet:
Tsukihito Amanuma and Sadao Makihara.
"It's an all-out war now."
The kid drives the car while Gourmet extends his limbs to kidnap Kuwabara. (Damsel in distress! Princess Kazu!!)
Yusuke and Kurama recognize those powers as those of Toguro's older brother (who had been disintegrated by his own younger brother during the finals of the Ankokubujutsukai).
Sensui smiles and waves BYE-BYE to an angry Yusuke...
...Who performs a
Brandon Walsh (see The Goonies) and frantically runs after the car on a bike on the roads and beyond. His outcome won't be less violent than Brandon's, but that's for next post.
Meanwhile, at Yusuke's, only the women and the effeminate-looking remain. Botan has saved Mitarai's life and it is the third time someone saves him in less than 40 pages. He wants to know why she did it, and she said that she didn't even think: that's the natural thing to do.
Kurama adds that Mitarai seems to have forgotten that not all humans are as bad as he's been made to believe with that tape. Because if they were, he himself would have given up on humans long ago. They let Mitarai go, but Kurama warns him that if continues to go against them, next time they meet he'll kill him without a second thought.
Mitarai seems to reconsider the situation for a moment, asks them to wait...
...And is invited to join forces.
When Yusuke returns [this gap will be filled in the next YYH post, about Sniper] and the whole gang is about to enter the enemy's lair, the cave, Mitarai offers himself as their guide. He says that:
"I just want to help Kuwabara, that's all."
Yanagisawa (Copy) offers to copy Mitarai in himself to learn what he's really thinking and feeling (that's his power/territory), but Yusuke just replies:
Yusuke: "I trust you. Let's go."
Mitarai: "Thanks."
100% Lovely Shônen Moment. ♥
