No, I just finished reading The Two Towers. I might try to read the last book asap, given how much the ending of this one has affected me!

It's so awesome. So... "holy", as some say. That said, I love Tolkien's characters' relationships. They are so heartwarming!

No, but it's relevant to differences between the films and books, not in plot but in treatment. So best to wait until you're done. :)
