Yesterday I bought the Shonen Jump because that's what I usually do when Eyeshield21 stars the cover and some color pages inside. I was lucky to find it before the next issue came out, as they arrive on Monday to my city. Anyway, I opened it in the middle, just because, and found a page with someone covered in blood from head to toes. I thought to myself: "Woah, that's some bloody manga. What's it, something in the lines of The Fist of the North Star"?"
It was Prince of Tennis.
Right on the page where they tell you the result of the match, even (Genius 331). But that's my luck with spoilers: if I run away from them, they come to eat me at night or bite me in the a**.
I know all of you have already read the next Genius (332), I see a lot of posts commenting behind cuts (thanks! I don't want to know MORE) and I have no idea how this character could get this way, nor do I care yet. I shouldn't be surprised, though, given the cover for volume 36. But one thing I tell you: I am sick of manga authors resorting again and again to accidents, injuries and over-the-top situations when their imagination runs dry. It happened with Captain Tsubasa, where the characters started having car accidents either themselves or loved ones. In Slam Dunk it was more rational and measured. But there were accidents, of course.
This character seriously looked as if a truck had entered the court and run over him. Several times.
We all knew this was not about tennis after all, but still, BLOOD WAS DRIPPING TO THE FLOOR. I MEAN, DRIPPING.
I don't want to know. I really don't want to know. I feel safer in my pre-Nationals World. I think I'll keep taking it eaaaasy.
