After sitting awhile, watching stars, Wash said, “Never on the mouth."

Jayne, ensconced in the co-pilot's seat, slid him a look. “Huh?'

Eyes fixed on the Black, Wash replied, “Said y' never kiss 'em on the mouth. 'Cause of the goodnight kiss drug.”

“That's right.” Jayne crossed his arms over his chest.

Wash laughed softly, knowingly, the kind of laugh which demanded an explanation.

“What?'

“I'm thinkin' not. The drug thing. Why you don't kiss them.”

“Huh?” Jayne huffed uneasily.

“It's tricky, kissing. A confluence of lips, tongue, teeth, questing for a connection, the sublime, perhaps even the divine.”

“Con- What?”

“Or it's just gross. Spit and slobber. Mouths slip sliding around. And what to do with the tongue? Too reticent and it seems you lack confidence in your ability to please. Too vigorous and the kissee feels, justifiably, the victim of a sexual assault.”

“Yeah.” Jayne ducked his head. “That tongue thing.”

Wash stood, heading aft. “Might help, y' know, a little tutoring, from a master.”

Feeling Jayne's gaze on his back, he grinned. Ah, he was an evil soul, to lead the man on so.
