The cicadas are arriving

yes, they are here. Yesterday on my way out of work I was walking through some green space and a man in a suit was staring at one that was making its way out of the dirt. He bent over, PICKED IT UP, and CARRIED it over to the nearest tree and put in on the tree. My co-workers are as insane as I am. I decided that he just wanted to be able to ( Read more... )

They actually thank you telepathically when you do that for them, you know. That walk from their hole to the tree tires them so...

You didn't know cicadas were telepathic? Geez, you probably didn't know they were incredibly poisonous, either?

I'm once again in 17-year Cicada zone. It's taking a lot longer for them to come out up here, though. Which I'm grateful for, seeing as I'm now training for a marathon and biking through along the lakeshore almost everyday. It'll be fun going under those old growth trees along the lake.

Jonathan and I have ideas for where we could install the Mating Robot...in the empty apartment above the Starbucks at Clark and Belmont, to get the Trixies to stop coming to my neighborhood.
