This article in the Register is talking about the events surrounding the nuclear reactors in Japan.

I generally agree with the article's conclusion.

I've been following the events there through these excellent threads at Chiefio's blog, which have been rich in resources. And also full of comments and posts by a couple of people convinced that any radiation is terrible, and the Fukushima disaster is Much Worse than anyone is saying.

These folks are relying upon dishonest leftist fearmongers Michio Kaku and Greg Palast for information. It's a pity; the news media is generally playing this up, to the ultimate detriment of society. The earthquake and tsunami had horrific consequences, but the nuclear aspect precisely zero casualties. How strange to focus all international attention there.
