Minorcan King of the Rabbits
For those folks fond of human-sized rabbits of fiction, there are possibilities ranging from
the gentle Mopsy of
The_Gneech webcomic Never Never, about whom I've written before
the strong and patient Kevin from Bill Holbrook's webcomic Kevin and Kell
the charming S'leen from Jim_Lane's SF novel Redeeming Factors
and even one surprising "rabbit-by-marriage" in Jenner's Doc Rat.
But outside of fiction, there have been some good-sized rabbits -- including one island group from a few million years ago found on Minorca off the coast of Spain:
(One modern rabbit was thrown into this reconstruction for scale.)
It seems to me that the suggestions that this creature would have been slow, with poor hearing and eyesight, are on a par with those who asserted confidently that Tyrannosaurus Rex was "only a scavenger." Then they found all of the bite marks, partially healed, of animals that decided that they weren't quite ready to be "scavenged" and were lucky enough to get away.
