Parenthetical Comment
On another forum, a friend wrote to complain about writers who start long parenthetical comments, particularly when they forget to finish them. I agreed and replied:
You are noting a common disease
That infects all of us, by degrees
(Parenthetically, I'll
Sometimes sail off that isle
Into storm-raging parenthe-seas)
When you're writing, you go with the flows
(And where subcomments stop, no one knows
When you're finished and gone
But you'd quickly moved on
Before bringing that thought to a
