The outline of the 36 chapters held up surprisingly well, with significant changes only in the last three. A character--one originally planned to die early on, actually, seems to have stolen the show a bit.
My original goal was 80,000 words and 36 chapters for the first draft. I'm allowing for expansion to 90,000 words (adding a bit more scene-setting and other details) -- but right now, the 36 chapters are complete at a word count of 80,149.
I'm pretty pleased with it. And my goal was Oct 1 to complete the draft of this first novel in a series, code-named Oct I.
Here were the last four days:
Sep 18: 1,132 words
Sep 19: 4,475 words
Sep 20: 6,628 words
Sep 21: 8,557 words
Looking at the pattern, it seems I needed about three hundred more words.
Other duties and background-building had the previous five days essentially blank. Writing began (after a few weeks of research and world-building) on August 21, which I just realized is a month ago today. Most words in one day: 12,400 on September 6th.
