As you've no-doubt heard, the State Chairman of the Arkansas Democratic party Bill Gwatney was shot and ultimately died from his attack. I join with others in sending wishes for comfort and healing to his family and friends.
The attacker was ultimately stopped -- after threatening persons at a nearby church office -- and he died of gunshot wounds in an apparent "suicide by cop" scenario.
He was ultimately identified as Timothy Dale Johnson of Searcy, Arkansas. No motive was given, and he did not seem to know Mr. Gwatney -- but he was heard to say "I lost my job."
Now for something perhaps not generally known to you.
There is a lawsuit going on by a Tim Johnson of Searcy, Arkansas against former employers (and related parties) for work-related injuries sustained five years ago. The injuries were pretty bad, it seems -- part of a crane fell on him. That Tim Johnson -- who may not be the same man -- was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in workman's comp payouts, had an apparently near-million-dollar hospital bill, and the case was ongoing at least in November of 2007.
Here are some filings (PDF files) -- he had brought an action against related parties (involved in the ownership of the crane, apparently).
I have no opinion on the case itself -- but if it is the same person, it provides a bit more insight as to background.
