But it's a great photo from space --


Note the discoloration around the impact sites of the parachute and aeroshell -- and the very large discolored area around the heat shield, which would have hit fairly hard.

Is the discoloration around the lander also disturbed surface, from the rocket blast perhaps? The pattern suggests it.

But more importantly, it appears that Phoenix has settled just a few feet from what looks for all the world like a dry creek bed. Since it is searching for water, that's a fortunate position indeed if that's what it is.
