You've heard me say that the total number of military deaths in Iraq has been comparable to that from military training accidents in recent years. Have reviewed the data in some detail, that seems to be true.
But you;'d expect, from the amount of noise the news media makes about it, that the war in Iraq is a complete and utter disaster in terms of US military lives lost.
Well, here are the numbers. The total military deaths per year, through 2006, is not up to the level seen by Jimmy Carter and the early years of the Reagan administration.
Edit: I should clarify that I'm arbitrarily assigning all of a calendar year to one president. It's a bit sloppy, but I don't have data from inauguration to inauguration.
