this adorable thingy where Danny and Steve are living in her home state and doing home state-y things, and it got me to thinking - a few years ago somebody hosted this awesome "Take Your Fandom To Work Day" (which I still want to revive at some point, seriously) where you took your characters and sometimes your canon plots and

Steve's probably just messing with him, but Danny grimaces anyway. "Okay, all right, and that, my friend, is why I got the chowder. You know you're basically eating a really big bug, right?"
"Mmmmmmmm," Steve says, smacking his lips like an jerk. "You're bringing a lobster back for Gracie."
"A chocolate lobster, and it's not my fault that everything in this state is either a lobster or a freaking moose."
Steve snorts, and Danny ignores him and digs into his pie. Now, nothing on this earth is better than his ma's chocolate pie, but Danny has to admit that this is pretty amazing, this is right up there, with the flaky crust and the tiny blueberries, deep purple and bursting on his tongue, and he swears they taste like the best parts of summer, though he's careful not to say that out loud. He might moan a little bit, though, which means he has to fend off Steve's wandering hand with his plastic fork.
"Nuh uh! You just sit over there on your side and eat your whoopie pie."
Steve waggles his eyebrows, and Danny rolls his eyes and says, "Oh, do not even, Smooth Dog," but it's a moot point anyway-Steve's about five seconds away from losing his dessert to the seagull that's been eyeing their french fries, because now he's too busy looking over Danny's shoulder, past the sea of red picnic tables and the people wearing polar fleece and Crocs, past the rocks and the foamy waves breaking against them to the gray water and beyond-gazing out with a thoughtful, faraway look on his face, as if, even though it's the wrong ocean, even though it's the wrong horizon, he still sees something comforting and familiar.
