Update
It's been a busy few months.
First of all, rest in peace Winston J. Churchill the guinea pig.
She appears to have died peacefully in her sleep, curled up in her house, after consuming a large last meal. We were very sad--she was our first pet adopted together--but also relieved as for once, there were no frantic last-minute trips to the vet and angst-ridden decisions to make.
I've been sailing more times in 2 months than I made it out all last summer. Husband and I crewed for my father in a charity regatta, along with a few friends of my dad's. A lovely sail was had, and we came in dead last. Who cares? money was raised and fun was had.
Yesterday I crewed for a new captain, as the one I started with isn't in the water this season due to serious engine woes. It was as nerve-wracking as a first date. It wasn't Moonshadow, but in 9 out of 10 ways it was a good thing. Less friendly--this guy is not at all effusive--but no yelling or personal insults. There was even-toned statements, civil disagreement, and peaceful silence. The weather was absolutely perfect.
My dad desperately wanted to take my niece and nephew out on his boat to see fireworks, but it didn't work out. He forgot how complicated travel with two small children can be, especially coupled with my mother and two other adults. It's just as well. My niece does not sit still for more than 3 minutes at a time, and has the attention span of a 2-year-old, even though she is nearly 4. I suspect that even though they got her a hearing aid and speech therapy, that she has other developmental delays.
My professor didn't wait until class started to email the syllabus. Her notes included the comment for the 3rd week: "Make no personal plans beyond this point." Great. But it is the last class, and although a lot of work, nothing I can't do or haven't already seen or done before.
Fandoms: I'm really into Orphan Black, Continuum, and Penny Dreadful. After Televisionwithoutpity gave up the ghost, I'm having trouble finding intelligent discussion.
