FIC: wage your war

Despite all the fantastic support from Dasha and Sarah?  I still ran into a bout of last-minute horror about the concept of posting this, and nearly didn't.  So... be gentle, I guess?  (Also, it's pretty damn short, so don't say I didn't warn you.)

OKAY Z, I'M HERE! I actually read this last night, but I had work today and I didn't want to rush my comment, because I JUST LOVED IT SO MUCH.

I was trying to work out exactly why it is that your fics always astound me so much, and I've come to the conclusion that it's your wording and sentence structure. I don't want that to sound weird, but how the sentences and words are put together is just jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Example:

He feels her lungs expand and contract between them, steadies himself by the compass of her stubborn vitality.
I mean ... what a stunning sentence. I could read just that over and over. It is perfection.

I also adored the description of how large he feels in the bathroom, because it's so real and believeable.
He feels awkward and oafish by comparison in the confines of her bathroom, though it's larger than his own. It's as though he's making a mess of it just by occupying it, much in the same way he's made a mess of her career, her ambitions, her life.

Apart from all that, I would also have to say that this fits in my personal canon now, too.

ZELLIE, IT'S JUST SO GORGEOUS! The whole thing. I could re-read it over and over and discover more things I love about it. I honestly am speechless at what else to say. I'm so glad you posted it, please post more snippets, and if I never get to see your big fic, I feel like my heart may break.

And uh, replying to the rest of your comment (if I haven't lost all coherency):

That's another thing I could probably write a small dissertation on, lol, the impact XF has had on media production.
THESE I WOULD HONESTLY LOVE TO READ. :D

Yes, I have seen Bad Blood before, but ... I don't know, just seeing it in it's place after I've watched the whole show through like I have, it feels different to the first time I saw it. Smarter and funnier, somehow. Ugh, it's just genius.

I just got done watching Mind's Eye, actually, which I'm surprised I haven't heard people ... talk about that much? Because I found it absolutely incredible. Usually, when I'm watching the show, my parents or I will occasionally backtalk or laugh if we find something ridiculous, but there was honestly complete silence during it. It was just a perfectly crafted episode. And oh, Mulder. ♥♥

Aww, sweetie! You are so adorable, thank you.

I don't want that to sound weird, but how the sentences and words are put together is just jaw-droppingly gorgeous.
That doesn't sound weird, that sounds absolutely lovely! I'm so glad that you feel that way, because I'm kind of particular about exactly that (not just in what I write, but what I read).

I would also have to say that this fits in my personal canon now, too.
Yay! That's what I was hoping for! :D

please post more snippets, and if I never get to see your big fic, I feel like my heart may break.
LOL you are such a blackmailer and enabler! But I will, someday, I promise! I mean, I have NO clue when, but it'll happen eventually!

THESE I WOULD HONESTLY LOVE TO READ. :D
I ONLY WISH I HAD THE TIME TO WRITE SUCH A THING. D: Seriously though, just doing the research alone for something like that would be SO much fun.

Bad Blood totally gains a ton of awesome once you really know the characters and have worked your way to that point in canon. People often say it's a favorite for introducing newbies, and I'm like, No! They can't understand how awesome it is yet!

Mind's Eye is hugely underrated in my opinion. It's one of my favorites of S5 by a big leap. I think a lot of fans don't like it because (a) Scully isn't around much, and (b) OH NOES Mulder has a connection of some sort with another woman!1!! but I don't care about either thing in this case, lol. I love Mind's Eye so much I once picspammed it and wrote lengthy meta on it! (I should also note that I love Lili Taylor, think she has fantastic chemistry with David, and freaked out a little when they shot a movie together as husband and wife a few years back. JUST SAYING.)

But yes, perfectly crafted episode, and OH, MULDER. ♥ ;D

I'm very particular about it too, and I tend to notice if it's either very good or very badly constructed. This is wonderful. Absolutely and completely.

Yay! That's what I was hoping for! :D
It's what I was hoping for, too!! So I'm glad it fit in just as I had hoped.

LOL you are such a blackmailer and enabler! But I will, someday, I promise!
>:) And proud of it. But I'm definitely holding you to that, because ... if these snippets are any indication, it'll be one of my favourite fics ever.

... I'm honestly stunned by that? It's an amaaaazing episode, there's no doubt about that, but that would honestly be one of the last episodes I would show a newbie. No newbie could possibly understand the humour and the witty banter and the genius of this episode if they didn't know the characters at least a little bit. I mean, the first time I saw it, it wasn't in order, but I'd seen at least 20-30 other episodes before. And I enjoyed it then, but not as much as I did the second time.

I had no idea you did that meta! I thought you might be a fan based on DD's performance in the ep, but I didn't know you enjoyed it so much!! You clearly have great taste, Z. I mean, I always miss Scully or Mulder if they're not in the ep at all, but it's not like Scully wasn't IN the episode. I enjoyed her and Mulder together, too, so I was cool with the amount she was in the ep. And yes, Mulder bonded with Marty, but apart from the fact that it's not the same kind of bond that he has with Scully, it was cute. He admired her and they were sweet. The end scene was fantastic.

Thank you so much sweetie. Really.

Ack! No pressure there! LOL.

Exactly! I also think it's... a tad overrated? I mean, don't get me wrong, I freaking love Bad Blood; it always makes me laugh, and it's Vince G., nearly impossible to go wrong there. However, I do feel that Darin Morgan's comedy was the very best, and would place his episodes above it, just slightly.

There's actually a very subtle moment between Mulder and Scully in Mind's Eye that I love (and I can't recall whether I noted it in the meta or not; unlikely, since I was focusing on the relationship between Marty and Mulder); he's talking about Marty, saying she wants them to believe she's strong and independent, that it's "important to her" but he shoots Scully a very significant look as he says it. Great stuff.

Back on the subject of The Secret, the movie I mentioned last night, someone on Haven made new caps! I can show you more on IM, later, but these two were too good not to share now:

Ugh, he's so goddamn pretty. Those EYES.
