Katie in Florida - Day 1 - My Thoughts On Naples

Jul 18, 2005 21:25

I've decided that I supremely enjoy this city. Walking through downtown Naples is just a comfotable joy, not touristy but residential and nice. One can totally tell this is meant for mainly retired, older couples with large investments. 5th Avenue, the main Old Naples shopping district leading to the beach runs like this: 2 or 3 boutiques, a fancy restaurant, J.P Morgan, 2 or 3 boutiques, restaurant, Charles Schwab, etc. And, everything but the restaurants closes by 8 or so... definitely not a party town.

An excellent outlet for investment analysis internship opportunities, anyway.

That and although there are TONS of nice homes on the beach, the wide majority of the beach is public access. I think this just makes for an overall better community. This, I feel, might quite possibly be one of the downfalls of Lorain - lots of beach property on the lake, but about 90% of it is privately owned, so the city can't take advantage. Here is Naples, one of the richest cities in Florida, with public access beaches, and Lorain, one of the poorest cities in Ohio, with about 1/4 mile public beach at Lakeview Park. and ew, lakeview park.

I could totally go for a swim right about now, but I'm not quite sure if I could get away with being in the pool after dusk like the hottubbers are doing...
