Un jour pour les petite pleasirs Originally uploaded by
onthemetro. Ashleigh and I decided we needed to be spoiled a little (as if having the opportunity to hang out in Paris wasn't spoiled enough) and so on the morning of May 2 we set out on what we called un jour pour les petits plaisirs.
First we strolled down the ultra posh Rue de Rivoili with a stop at the Chanel store. We each purchased one tube of lipstick (22E) and told the sales associate they were gifts so she would wrap them. She wrapped each of our lipsticks in white wrapping paper embossed with the classic Chanel logo tied with black and white Chanel ribbons--and to top it all off, she stuck a beautiful white silk flower on top. I held out opening mine for two days before I broke down and wanted to wear my new lipstick to the Moulin Rouge.
Once we were outfitted in fabulous new lipstick we stopped in at Angelina's Tea Room for hot chocolate and macarons. You HAD to, and I mean HAD to, drink your hot chocolate with a huge dollop of whipped cream dumped on top because it was just way too chocolately (if ever there was such a thing) without it. Think of what it would be like to drink a mug of melted chocolate and that was exactly what it was like!
France does not make macarons as we know them here in North America. No hard little blobs of egg-washed shredded coconut here. Oh no, they are thin and crispy on the outside and filled with delicious, chewy centres. I ate at least one macaron a day while I was away--raspberry was my favorite, but the rose macaron I had at La Duree was also fantastic.
Once we left Angelina's we walked our indulgences off along the Champs D'Elysee.
