hey caleb, how much do you know about this guy? i read an interview with him and had a discussion in another lj community, and was left sketched out by a lot of what he said - that ftm surgeries produce "hybrid, intersexual, non-passable bodies" and that ftms "almost never fully become men," basically, which i think is problematic on soooo many levels. is this the sort of thing he addresses in his talks?
Those would be excellent questions to ask Dr. Noble, actually. I'm quite familiar with all of his publications, have spoken with him personally, and actually organized this event. Again, I can't speak for him, but he made those comments (in print) as a part of a discussion on the politics of being a feminist transgender man, so I highly doubt that he wishes to speak from the standpoint of ALL transmen - but again, I really think you should address those questions to him. OR, if you can't make it to the event, send those questions my way and I'll put him on the spot for you :)
nah, it's not that important. i just get easily annoyed by theoretical abstractions that make uniform pronouncements about others' lives/bodies. i mean i'm a white feminist trans man too... but part of my feminism involves not forcing diverse groups into biologically essentialist hierarchies of passability or whatnot. anyway the lj dicussion was either in transfeminism or our_own_path if you're interested.
DUDE!! You got into York!!! Congrats that's awesome! I'm really happy for you, you must be thrilled. It's not 100% that I'm even going to USC. If I decide to go, I was going to try and postpone till 2008. I plan on being in Toronto till next Christmas. I hope I get to see you more when you come here :)
