last ditch attempt at procrastination, because I REALLY REALLY don't want to mark those goddamned papers anymore. i took a 3rd year course a few years back entitled "Language and Gender", and i had to walk out after the first class because of the idiotic things the PROF was saying, never mind the students. She actually had the gall to approach me afterwards and ask if i was willing to educate her on the varying complexities and nuances of gender, afer she had opened the class with a story about the frustrating experience she had going to the gas station and getting called "lady". i had put my hand up to correct her language on something she had said, when i found out the hard way that she had a pointed habit of calling on students by saying "you man there" or "you woman there" in a possibly well-intentioned but terribly executed attempt to get people to reclaim their, uh, genderhood. or something. When i got "you man there...um, oh, i am so sorry, i mean..." she may have had her very first gender wake-up call. one glance through the syllabus also indicated no race/class analysis. so i feel your pain, buddy. the things i dont miss about being a student.

ps it was good to see you out yesterday...
