the last few days and the return home - 3

As you know we spend the last week with my mum in Vegas and i have to say this visit was much more relaxed. we had stuff planned for the evenings so the days consisted of finding intersting places to have lunch, shooting, going to the Valley of Fire, shopping and afternoon naps.

The Valley of Fire is about 45 min drive south east (i think) from LV and is a pretty cool place - it's desert and the little cannoyns and rocks are bright red in parts and in other parts you can see the colourful sediment layers in the rocks, which are all different colours - red, black, white. we did a few walks around there. the last one was just before sunset and the place was relatively empty (it was the monday of a long weekend, so it was pretty crowded earlier) and very eiry.

The shows we saw were Crazy Horse - a european style vegas show, which has been running for close to 50 years there and "O" by cirque du soleil.
CH was good - a very intimate setting in a room resembling parisian cafe and the audience is seated at tables. the girls were pretty good and wel proportioned although you still left feeling like a short frumpy old thing :) they had a "short" tribute to MJ, where a midget puppet MJ and a puppet chimp did a couple of numbers that was one of the highlights definitely.

"O" was AMAZING! i have not been to CdS in Sydney but can not imagine that the productions would be as ......grand (for the obvious reasons). The story is about a guy who dies (i think) and is transported to a magical water world. the stage is basically a pool is moveable platforms, which raise and lower at different parts - the effect is amazings - you have people walking on water, creatures slowly and quietly emerging from the deep, different props floting around and the performers simply jumping off they suspended trapeziums and other performance spaces int the water. every time they did something like that the audience would gasp! the music of course contributed A LOT - it was done live on two sound stages on the side of the stage and was inspired by world folk music - really well done!

we also met with a couple of very cool people, Vessy and Steve, who we did not get a chance to meet up with last time we were there. i have known vessy since we were little but we had not seen each other since we were about 8 or 9 i think. i was a bit nervous - she has grown up in the US and her boyfriend is american - it could have been very uncomfortable dinner! but as it turns out they are both very cool and we hit it off straigh away - we seem to hold similar views on the world and also seem to be into exactly the same things! frank found a bit of a kindered soul in Steve - someone else who understands what it is like to be going out with a bulgarian and they kept each other company when the dinner discussions heated up in bulgarian :) hopefully they will come and visit some time.

the flight back was relatively uneventful. i did manage to sleep, although this particular route seems to be very bumpy and every time we had turbulance i was reminded that i am thousands of meters in the air traveling at speeds at which human should not be travelling...... i think a valium may be in order for next time!

so back home now and back to work tomorrow with uni starting on Wednesday and a Nelson Bay trip planned for two weeks time - aah, the things we need to do to keep distracted!
