so we landed safely. V Australia was pretty good - seats are big, staff are friendly and professional and they have a great selection of movies. everything was done with a great sense of humour. there is also a "snack" bar, where you can get soft drinks, water and snacks throughout the fligth. the only thing is that they only provide one alcoholic drink with dinner and you have to pay if you'd like any more. honestly i thought this would bother me a lot more than it did - they are pretty generous with their wine servings, which meant that you could really only have one wine with dinner. they also had regular sized can of beer. i'd fly with them agian.
LA was a bit of a disappointment ....again, however the highlights were finding the Betty Page Store, where i spent A LOT of money, but everythign looks hot so i am justified. The second highlight was a growers' market we managed to stummble upon on Sunday morning - it was ont eh streets (whcih were blocked off of course) and was huge! so we enjoyed some coffee and croissaunts from a local backery. That was a definite bonus, since the only other place open at that time was starbucks.
Arrived in Reno on Sunday afternoon and drove to South Lake Tahoe. A beautiful drive! we get a Dodge Charger this time, which is fucking MONSTER of a car, but i have to say not my favourite - not enough power for the size. anyway, Lake Tahoe is beautiful, we are staying walking distance from the gondola to the mountain. The mountain itself if is also HUGE - we have been up two days now and have not had to repeat a run! there is great cover and the weather has been pretty good moving b/w sunny and cloudy (well, being in clouds, really) Frank and I hit a local brewery on Sunday night and as a result weren't feeling particularly fresh yesterday, but the mountain offers a GREAT variety of blue runs with varying difficulty. We stuck to those yesterday. Today, feeling much more refreshed we hit up the black and forest runs, which were amazing! i am suprised at how much better i am after the lesson i had at the end of the season last year - a lot of the technique has stuck :) so i was actually able to do a black tree run as opposed to simply "get down", which is what was happening in Japan.
The food so far has been pretty good. The only thing that stans out so far woudl have to be the white wine and garlic clams and the burger at the Lake Tahoe Brewery. After the first night over here, when we both ordered someting and ended up throwing out about 2/3rds of our meals, we have decided to only order one meal and share - so far it has worked perfectly!
Got two more days here and them we are flying to Vegas on Friday for our dinner reservation. We also have tickets, thanks to mum, for "O" (Cirque du Sole) and "Crazy Horse".
