Oh, True Blood...
I have to admit that I started out with not-so-high hopes for this season, as there seemed initially to be way too much going on. Fairies! Werepanthers! Witches! Devil Baby! WTF!
But now things are starting to get good.
Things that I enjoy:
1. Alexander Skaarsgard's transformation to doofy Eric. His posture, mannerisms, everything are totally different. It's kind of amazing.
2. Devil baby! I am surprised by how much I care about this storyline, but it does have several things going for it: creepy doll, Arlene freaking the hell out, Terry being just as loveable as always, and ghost lady that only Lafayette can see. And, omg, props to Nelsan Ellis. Not only did his reaction to seeing the lady in the kitchen crack me the hell up, but the man is damn good at playing possessed. I can't wait to see where this goes.
3. As much as I am generally bored shitless by Tommy and all things Tommy-related, it is pretty awesome to see Sam Trammell and the actress who plays Mrs. Fortenberry playing Tommy playing their characters. The latter was especially hilarious. Also, Tommy in his Mrs. Fortenberry drag--priceless!
4. Jessica! I am a little sad about what they've done to the Jessica/Hoyt relationship, especially as it's meant giving Hoyt (often one of my favorites) a bad case of Nice Guy Syndrome. But I'm interested to see where the Jason/Jessica relationship goes, especially as it means Crystal might stay out of the fucking picture for awhile. GOOD RIDDANCE.
5. Pam's obsession with Tara and their mutual feud. I kind of want them to bone now.
6. Anna Paquin's breasts. Obviously.
Things I enjoy less:
1. Sookie and Eric having sex all. the. damn. time. OMG, enough. The sickeningly sweet, devoted pillow talk is getting old too. Not even the gratuitous Anna Paquin nipple-shots are holding my interest at this point.
2. All the shifter/were-creature storylines. Do not want. Alcide is the one I give something most resembling a shit about, but that storyline has been so telegraphed that it's mostly just boring and kind of painful. That said, I will be kind of amused to see Debbie Pelt go insane again.
3. The accents. Did they fire the speech coach? Tara's always been the weakest of the bunch, with Vampahr Beel a close second, but King Beel's been especially bad lately and others who can usually be counted on are starting to slip as well. Also, the ghost lady. And Marnia/Antonia Do I need to say more? (That said, Fiona Shaw is English doing an American doing an antiquated Spanish accent, so I'm willing to go easy)
4. The long silvering shots. Ew. There has to be another way vampires can be contained. In fact, I'm pretty sure we've seen it before in previous seasons.
5. Andy Bellfleur's entire storyline. Snooze.
Things that plum confused me:
1. Eric ripping the heart out of that human in Marnie's crew. Um, what? Wasn't he a fluffy bunny like, 3 seconds before? Also, why would he think that was the thing to do in that situation?
2. Did Bill glamour over the television set? Is that possible?
3. Why is there not more Nan Flanagan? My crush, it is huge.
Anyone else watching?
