What's your one true pairing/3/ship of choice/favorite pairing/tripling/orgy/people you sometimes like to see have sex (OTP3SOCFPTOPYSLTSHS)? Buffy/Angel

What's something you love about it? They love each other, perhaps epically, but they are the heroes and they have responsibilities that are as big and maybe more important than their love. As heroes, they have to choose their responsibilities. As a fan, I get to choose their love :)

What's a reason you think these characters are good together? My favorite thing about Buffy and Angel is their potential. What grabbed me initially was the chemistry and the tragic love story but what kept me interested was watching them continue to love each other, quietly, even after they had resigned themselves to never be together. After they'd moved to different networks. Even after they began to love other people. And I think that it's their time apart that gives them the tools to be a successful couple in the future-- they can add emotional and physical maturity and a very deep ( ... )

What's a scene in canon that occurs between these two characters you really like (if they met in canon)? Just one? Probably in "Chosen" when Buffy says she does think of him in her future, someday, and he says he's not getting any older with that little smile. That, my friends, is potential.

What's a fic you love that features it? There are many, but my current favorite piece of fluff is Stains by Vatrixsta Cruden, my current favorite smutfic is Concessions by Gia, and my favorite angst fic of the moment is All of This and Nothing by Chrislee. Of course, these change at any given moment :)

What's a fic you consider a "classic" to it (even if you yourself don't think much of it)? The ultimate classics are Phoenix Burning by Yahtzee, Something Old by Ducks, Bittersweet Legacy by Vatrixsta Cruden and Domestication by Indie.

What's a fic you might rec to someone to introduce them to it/romance them into it? Well I think Phoenix Burning is a gimme, so I think I'd say maybe Waiting for the Sun by Chrislee.

What's an element you ( ... )

Hmm, I do have a kink for a good possessive "mine"

And that, my friend, is why I'm co-writing with you. We can indulge our biting/possessive kinks. *g*

My biggest pet peeve, the one that makes me want to scream, is when people say Buffy and Angel wouldn't work in the future because they "don't know each other" or "have nothing in common". They would definitely get to know each other again but they would like one another, and more, they have everything in common. They are the heroes, they share values and beliefs, they find family and friends extremely important, etc. It's just the dumbest argument against future B/A ever.

Just reading over your comments, I think we share a lot of viewpoints on this. Buffy and Angel share a common set of values - values that are deeply important to them - and that mutual awareness is a huge thing. The respect for responsibilities is what bonds them together and also what requires them to be apart, and it provides a lot of fodder.

Their commonalities are the bread and the butter! Their differences were never the reason they didn't work.

We do seem to share a lot of thoughts on Buffy as a character and B/A as a ship. I don't disagree with your view very often and very often can say "yeah, what he said".

Completely agree.

Stains by Vatrixsta Cruden, my current favorite smutfic is Concessions by Gia

Haven't read either. Thanks for taking the time to link.

Grown up Buffy and Angel (I'm not a big fan of high school fics, so a lot of what I read is post-canon or AU canon)

I know what you mean . . . though for me, high school fics are alright as long as they're set after S2. The turning point of the relationship for me was when she stabbed him--that's when it stopped being fairytale. The much more subdued relationship in S3 is what sinks deep inside their hearts and grows and just sticks to become the thing that just won't leave, but doesn't force itself to act, later on.

Weight of Life is one.

That's on the list, too.

or a nice grunted "fuck" as in "fuck that feels good"

Oh yeah.

I dislike the way Angel makes unilateral decisions, although I do understand in the context that he makes them.

I have a love/hate relationship with them. The two biggest times he did it (in Prom and IWRY), I felt ( ... )

Yeah, I dislike Spike and Riley bashing as well, but at least for Spike, there is some history for writing him evil or conniving. With Cordy, it's all about hating her. And to be honest, most writers I read actually like Spike so it's Cordy who comes out bad.

Now, that's one I haven't really heard before.

It seems to be the new "mature" reason for disliking B/A, you know, once the "pedophile!" and "puppy love!" reasons have been played out. And usually it comes out when a B/A'er says, well, but my B/A is future B/A, so pedophile and puppy love don't really come into the equation. When I hear the nothing-in-common or but-they-don't-know-each-other-they-haven't-seen-each-other-in-years argument I just want to throw in the towel. Because please.

It's the most fun if it comes from someone who ships two characters who have never met.

If anything, what I can see holding them apart is they have too much in common. And it's what separates them once he leaves her--in IWRY, they both realize that their love could distract them from what they both see as their real purposes in life.

It sort of does and doesn't. Because in terms of actually getting to spend time together, in the same town doing date things instead of business... Very much so. But on a spirtual level, they wind up in the same place...

Which isn't a little thing. Most of the people Buffy's with, if they're really perceptive, might recognize that she has values, that they're really important, and know that she feels deep purpose, responsibility and burdens of leadership. But it's a very rare set of people who get her on that level, because they feel those values and responsibilities too.

There's the Angel line in NFA - "People who don't care will never understand people who do"

Heck yeah.

I wish that could fit on an icon. Because that's exactly how I feel and why I love this ship. *worships a little*

*worships a little again*. I just posted a big meta-cle type thing, and that's exactly what I was trying to say, and here you've said it in only a couple lines.
