On the age thing, don't get me wrong, it's not something that bugs me a lot. I really had to pause to come up with anything for that question. I just think that's one thing that someone could potentially use against me in an argument that I wouldn't really win. I love that Angel's so much older and experienced in the ways of the world (because honestly, once you're dating a vampire what difference does it make that he's a couple centuries older?), and when you get to the point where she's 18 and he's... still old, there is no problem for me. It's just, even if Buffy had to grow up too fast for her age, 16 is really very young. I don't tend to dwell on it that much, though. If I were 16 and a guy like him started lurking around, I'd probably fall for him too.
When I first started reading fic and such, before LJ and back when I was purely a casual lurker, I read a few "the claddagh ring he gave her means they're actually MARRIED!" fics and was naive enough to think it was just lovely and sweet. Then, one day, someone said "you know, it really doesn't mean that" and I said "oh!" and have been wiser ever since.

Oh no, I get it. I just find it interesting how that age difference attracts me--and it's because I have a kink, that's all. I really really like older!brooding!world-weary/innocent!naive!virgin. Although all people mature at different ages, I do think 16--in a real life scenario--might've been not such a good age to embark on the relationship she did with Angel.

This. Drives. Me. Nuts!!!!!!!!!! If it were true, Buffy would bitch-slap his ass and have nothing to do with him ever again. She'd be effing ticked that he married her without telling her. I mean, how unfair is that? Ugh.
Oh, sorry. I can see thinking it kinda sweet. Except I can't, really. But I DO think the rings are sweet, and at first I was totally into them. But now if I see them even mentioned in a fic I am very, very wary.
And, actually, in at least one I read Buffy definitely did get furious and hunted him down to, as my father would say, "give him 'what for'". There was lots of yelling and screaming and then they.... somehow resolved it and lived happily ever after? Huh. I don't really remember. It's been a couple years or so since I subjected myself to one of those.
