Ducks' "Something Old" series, though to be honest, I've never made it through the whole thing. That isn't to say I don't think much of it,

I've never made it past the first couple of chapters. And that IS to say I didn't think much of it. The first couple chapters are very gooey to me, and don't really jive with how I view B/A. But I've heard several other people say the same thing and that it improves on further acquaintance, so I'm determined to read it all some day. (And I mean no disrespect to Ducks, also, as I know from other short fics of hers I've read that she can write fabulously. She is, after all, a pillar of B/A fandom :o)

a2zmom's Guilt trilogy is a most recent favorite!
thenyxie's "A Thousand Tiny Deaths"

Both seconded. Hard.

"Imaginations of Her"

Love that fic.

I'm easy: "I love you."

Aww! My insides just melted a little.

The age Buffy was when things started, I guess.

I might be squicky, but I like that (I have a Daddy!kink anyway, and that's definitely squicky). You know, one of the first things that drew me to B/A was how old Angel was. The first time I saw him on BtVS I thought he looked too old for what I considered to be a teeny bopper show, and I quickly slid him into the category of "adult figure," like Giles. Then my friend paused the DVD and explained "That's Buffy's bf." I did a double take, and said, "isn't he kind of . . . OLD?" And she said, "That's not the half of it . . . he's actually a couple centuries old..." And then she told me the story and I said, "She started going out with HIM when she was SIXTEEN?" And my friend went into a semi-defense with how Buffy being the Slayer and all, she was mentally more responsible than most kids her age, yada yada. . . she didn't know that I wasn't horrified. But titillated. I'm so dirty!
/long rambling pointless story.

That it can't be as "grownup"/"mature" as Spuffy/(C/A)/insert pairing here.

My big peeve as well.

Over-emphasizing claddagh rings?

Oh, claddagh rings, you are so cheesy. I love their cheesiness, though, except when people try to take them too seriously and don't love them for the sheer cheese they really are.

On the age thing, don't get me wrong, it's not something that bugs me a lot. I really had to pause to come up with anything for that question. I just think that's one thing that someone could potentially use against me in an argument that I wouldn't really win. I love that Angel's so much older and experienced in the ways of the world (because honestly, once you're dating a vampire what difference does it make that he's a couple centuries older?), and when you get to the point where she's 18 and he's... still old, there is no problem for me. It's just, even if Buffy had to grow up too fast for her age, 16 is really very young. I don't tend to dwell on it that much, though. If I were 16 and a guy like him started lurking around, I'd probably fall for him too.

When I first started reading fic and such, before LJ and back when I was purely a casual lurker, I read a few "the claddagh ring he gave her means they're actually MARRIED!" fics and was naive enough to think it was just lovely and sweet. Then, one day, someone said "you know, it really doesn't mean that" and I said "oh!" and have been wiser ever since.

Oh no, I get it. I just find it interesting how that age difference attracts me--and it's because I have a kink, that's all. I really really like older!brooding!world-weary/innocent!naive!virgin. Although all people mature at different ages, I do think 16--in a real life scenario--might've been not such a good age to embark on the relationship she did with Angel.

This. Drives. Me. Nuts!!!!!!!!!! If it were true, Buffy would bitch-slap his ass and have nothing to do with him ever again. She'd be effing ticked that he married her without telling her. I mean, how unfair is that? Ugh.

Oh, sorry. I can see thinking it kinda sweet. Except I can't, really. But I DO think the rings are sweet, and at first I was totally into them. But now if I see them even mentioned in a fic I am very, very wary.

Hee! I expected that reaction.

And, actually, in at least one I read Buffy definitely did get furious and hunted him down to, as my father would say, "give him 'what for'". There was lots of yelling and screaming and then they.... somehow resolved it and lived happily ever after? Huh. I don't really remember. It's been a couple years or so since I subjected myself to one of those.

I'd like to see one in which she hunts him down and stakes him.

See how this is making me resorts to many italics? Ugh!

Dude. I need to take deep breaths.
