I'm glad you came by! I've actually always used ff.n. I know it's a perfect cess pit of dead cats, but I'm used to it. I am now, however, trying to free myself of the muck and just shift my entire self over to lj.
I feel like there's a kind of predestination with Buffy and Angel not really because of their romance, but because of their unusual circumstances. Buffy is a unique Slayer--if not early on then definitely after S7. Angel is the only vampire in the world with a soul. Just seems to me like they would cross paths.
I'm glad you like the Darla idea. I do think that if Spike's chip had started to fail before he got a soul Buffy would've felt the need to dust him, even if she had some feelings for him. He was a demon and a murderer--but since his chip failed after his soul, she put her trust in him. I think that chipped Darla, on the other hand, would never have gotten to the point where she would actually go get herself a soul, so if her chip began to fail Buffy would just dust her, or let her be dusted. I like to toy with the idea that Darla might've developed some sort of feelings for a Scoobie or two (the idea of Xander/Darla is particularly amusing to me), but I think neither Darla nor Angelus could love in a way that would make them want to change or be less vicious (though chipped Angelus is such an interesting idea!).
I hope you like the rest, and thanks so much for your comments!

I absolutely agree. It's one of the things that makes me believe that the B/A relationship will always be set apart from every other romantic pairing involving Buffy or Angel. They were similar in their otherness even after the Chosen One turned into an army. Buffy is still unique among Slayers because she lived and died more than once. Angel is unique because of his soul. Both have suffered from the aspects that make them unique.
I could see Darla playing with Xander, because he has the worshipful puppy dog personality. I can see her treating him as a pet, but I agree that love is not something Darla's capable of - at least not the human sense of the word. She once said she loved Angel(us) (episode "Angel") but then we know she left him to burn in a barn when it meant she save her own skin, and she abandoned him after he got a soul... her "love" is very conditional.
As for Spike, I can absolutely see Buffy staking Spike if his chip had failed. That being said, I wonder if the writers would have gone there in view of his fan following. I love the way you wrapped up his story.
