I think something weird is happening to me. I'm either depressed or something very like the opposite. Perhaps it is RL stuff I don't know how to react to and I'm not going to talk about.
But lately, I've been thinking of quite a few things. They are things I have thought of before, many times. I've dwelt on them, turning them over in my brain. They are nothing new. In fact, they are pithy, self-evident, and familiar to many. What is new is that they suddenly feel new.
And they seem to be just utterly random things, about both life and writing. I don't really get it.
Well, here they are, for the edification of anyone interested. They still seem very strange to me in their familiarity.
1. People can be kind without having an agenda.
2. You can have an entire conversation with someone, without either person trying to get a dig in, seem smarter, or "win"
3. I've never thought of original characters I want to write, only original stories.
4. I can write in any style I choose.
5. It's okay if I write something in which not everything is immediately apparent.
6. I should write things I want to read.
7. There are readers as clever as I am.
8. It's alright to talk about things I'm interested in.
9. I don't take initiative in my work place.
10. You have to work to make friends.
11. Things are not good just because I wrote them.
12. Something doesn't necessarily work in a story just because it was a part of the original idea/I want it to be there.
13. Not every original story I write has to contain everything I've ever wanted to see and rarely get to in fiction.
14. Talking to other people to get help with your ideas is okay.
15. You can say things that can change people's lives for the better.
16. Some things you can say are better than others even if the intention behind each is exactly the same. The difference can sometimes have to do with how much thought you put into it.
17. Other people may be interested in helping you if you ask them.
There are many other general self-realizations I could write down, but they're not the ones that feel weirdly new. I'm introspective; I think about this stuff a lot. So why does this stuff feel like I haven't thought it before?
