It's been awhile since I've last updated. Here's what's been going on:
Grad school started last week. It's exciting because I finally get to start doing what I want to do with the rest of my life, job wise at least. I'm taking Speech Anatomy, Phonology, Diagnostics, Language Foundations, Clinical Ethics, and a couple of labs to go with those courses. Plus Clinic two days a week. It's a lot but I like it all. Better than undergrad in that respect. Commuting feels weird I must admit. I miss that feeling of being on campus all the time. I have one of the shortest commutes in my program so I could have it worse. And generally I don't have to travel during peak traffic times. There are people commuting from Queens and even LI. Althought being that's where I am most weekends I might as will be doing that. The library at school is ok but only open until midnight during the week. I assumed it'd be 24/7 because of the med school. I found out though there are study rooms in my building where I can stay over night if I wanted to pull an all nighter. What else. The students. Everyone seems nice so far. I'd say about half of the students have similar academic backgrounds to mine. I'm nervous about the clinic work. My first client is a 42 year old stroke victim who lost the ability to speak so we are fitting him with an augmentative communication device. The paperwork associated with the clinic work is daunting. But so does everything at first. I'm sure I'll get it down once I'm filling out those forms constantly. I think I'll really like my grad program. I miss the social aspects of undergrad. As Ann put it, "Grad svool is school."
What else... I'm trying to keep sane living at home. Optimism, remembering it's about 20 months until I'll gradute, and controlling my stress constructively will help.
I miss everyone a lot and I can't wait for Homecoming.
