[ History ] :
Waka is a member of the Moon Tribe, a civilization that once thrived on the Earth's moon. An unknown calamity left his race nearly extinct, and he left the moon on the Ark of Yamato (a space-faring ship built by the Moon Tribe) around 200 years ago. Unknown to Waka, the ship was actually a vessel to imprison thousands of demons including Yami, the Ruler of Darkness. Successfully piloting the Ark to the Celestial Plain he was allowed to live happily with it's native inhabitants, the Celestials (angel-like beings) and the Ark lay dormant for many years. It's been said that one day an eight-headed beast named Orochi left the Ark with an unlimited amount of demons at his command, slaughtering the Celestials with ease. Their home left destroyed, Waka took as many of the remaining Celestials as he could with him onto the Ark, trying to take them to the safety of the human land of Nippon, unaware of the numerous demons still lurking in the vessel. In the chaos the remaining Celestials were slain, and the ship, having lost it's rudder, crash-landed into Laochi Lake, in the frozen lands of Kamui, Nippon. The countless demons were then unleashed upon the mortal world, along with Orochi. Feeling directly responsible for the deaths of the Celestials and humans due to his role in the Yamato Ark incident, Waka decided that he would dedicate his life to destroying the demons.
Present-day, the first time the Sun Goddess Amaterasu and her companion Issun meet Waka, it appears to be in Agata Forest, where he cheerfully greets them before asking Amaterasu for a battle to test her strength. Waka knew Amaterasu before meeting her on earth, having fought alongside her against Orochi in the Celestial Plain, and affectionately refers to her as "ma chérie". However Amaterasu cannot remember him - yet he remains unflappable. He shows up multiple times on her journey to give her helpful little "prophecies" to give her hints on where to go next on her quest. He's not above manipulating her a bit to help him with his own goals (which ultimately are hers as well) which is shown when he has Amaterasu exterminate a monster named Crimson Helm, and steals its Serpents Crystal from under her nose, to use to open the Moon Cave for them to fight Orochi. In letting her do this, he lets her discover new abilities, and receive praise from humans she helps - a key component of her strength as a God...as well as not having to go through the trouble of seeking out the Satomi Power Orbs to open the door to Crimson Helms lair. While coming off in an extremely shady manner to Ammy and Issun, Waka does everything in order to help his cause of exterminating the demons that plague the land...and sometimes he knows that Amaterasu must be the one to do that in his stead.
"Captain" Waka works under Queen Himiko of Sei-An City, and leads a special-set of troops for her as well called the "Tao Troopers". Normally he is away from his duties watching the Moon Shrine night and day or working for the Queen, but after Orochi's defeat it's unsure where his time is mostly spent, as he isn't seen ever at the Tao Troopers floating island. On the outskirts of Sei-An City, Waka appears as Amaterasu and Issun are hot on the trail of Ninetails: a monster from the Ark, who has been terrorizing North Ryoshima Coast. The coast, previously tainted by the power of Orochi's curse (still powerful even in it's death) has been cleansed by Waka himself after he claimed the two were taking too long to arrive. He calls Issun out on being a wandering artist, wanting to see one of his pictures - just one, pretty please? Issun couldn't be one of those artists who claims to be amazing yet can't paint a thing, could he? There are so many unscrupulous kinds of people out where - why an old man told him that his grandson had stolen a painting of a wood sprite he'd done himself and ran off alone to never return home... After calling Issun out and striking a nerve, Waka leaves the scene without any prophecies for them.
With the death of Ninetails at the paws of Amaterasu, a sacrifice was made... Queen Himiko died to show her the way to Oni Island, where the fox made it's home. Waka arrives again to give them a helpful prophecy to go to the north, not before being called heartless by Issun. Waka seems unaffected by the Queen's death on the outside, claiming he knew that Queen Himeko had accepted her fate, as Amaterasu must have as well. He leaves rather abruptly after helping them, and isn't seen again until the two make their way to the frozen lands of Kamui, to the north, with the help of his prophecy. When they meet outside the frozen, consuming forests of Yoshpet, all Waka seems to have in mind is telling the two about the frozen Ark in a nearby lake. He wonders... Amaterasu knows it, doesn't she?
After curing the lands of Kamui from a powerful blizzard caused by two mechanical owls at the top of Wawku Shrine, a sword named Kutone - used by a man named Oki to assist Amaterasu in her battle in the shrine - is replaced back into it's pedestal at the foot of Laochi Lake. Sending forth a bright silver light, Kutone shatters the wall of ice encasing the Ark and it awakens, sending down a rainbow bridge towards the ground. After crossing their way to the Ark, Issun informs Amaterasu he can't go with her any more - they've gathered the thirteen Brush Techniques and he no longer has any reason to journey with her. Fighting the Lord of Darkness was never on his list. Waka appears again to pick on him - only the worthy are allowed on the Ark to the Heavens, Issun never had a ticket, and he never will. A coward unwilling to accept his role as a Celestial Envoy, spreading good word of the Gods, would never be fit to board. As the Ark's door starts to close, the rainbow bridge fades away and Issun falls into the unfrozen lake below. This time Waka has a little prophecy for Issun and Issun alone... 'It takes two to tango. The bond of the brush shall intercede!' Someone unwilling to fulfill their own destiny can't board the Ark, life is about resolve; hadn't he met so many people with incredible resolve over the course of his journey with Amaterasu? The Ark finally closes, with Issun still quietly watching from his spot in the waters.
Alone, Amaterasu defeats the remaining spirits of Yami's strongest demons sent from the Ark that she had fought in her travels: the Spider Queen, Crimson Helm, the eight-headed Orochi, the poisonous Blight, and Ninetails. After their defeat, Amaterasu is ready to fight Yami - only to find Waka has been doing just that on his own until her arrival. Bruised and battered from battle, Waka still has the power to laugh. He's met his match! Does she remember when they fought against Orochi together in the Celestial Plains? Yami awakens to drain away Amaterasu's Celestial powers, and Waka jumps in front of her to block an attack from Yami for her with his sword. As he struggles to keep the blast from knocking her back, he tells her he'll stand firm in this fight; because it was he who brought this misfortune on the lands of Nippon. Knowing he cannot take back what he's done, he tells Amaterasu he was touched when she believed in him nearly 200 years ago...and his faith in her has never wavered. She must return to the Celestial Plain , in order to bring peace to this world! It's then that another blast from Yami sends Waka flying off the side of the pillar they stand on, and he falls into the depths of the Ark alone.
Alone, Amaterasu defeats Yami, slowly regaining her Celestial Brush techniques back one by one, as she defeats him, she hears Issun's voice from far far away... as she readies a howl to savour her victory, Yami attacks her once more. Draining her powers yet again, all seems dark for the Sun Goddess...until she hears Issun's voice once again. Along with Issun's voice rise up countless others of people she's met in her travels, people who believe in her as a God, and have come to the realization on their own, or through Issun's brushwork. Finally embracing his destiny as that of a Celestial Envoy, he's been busy spreading news of Amaterasu's godhood, getting people to believe in her and give her power. Harnessing the prayers of the people of Nippon, Amaterasu's powers are returned to her, and she defeats Yami's final form.
With Yami finally gone, Waka appears in the floating cockpit of the Ark, praising Amaterasu on her victory - she couldn't have done it without Issun's help. Having finally remembered him, Amaterasu hops into the cockpit with him, eagerly licking his face, the two share a lighthearted moment together. Their journey is far from over though - they both need to return to the Celestial Plain to set things right. It's full-speed ahead, and the Celestial Plains are soon in sight as the two ride into the skies...
[ Personality ] :
No matter what situation he's put in, Waka remains unflappable in every way; he knows what he believes in, and no matter what anyone else says, he will not bat an eyelash to it. The best representation of this, is of course, his faith in Amaterasu and her powers. Having fought alongside her in the Celestial Plain, Waka has seen firsthand how amazing her powers are, and that she can pull through. Even with the loss of her memories on her journey, and her weakened state, Waka knows that with just a little nudge in the right direction, she'll pull through. His little appearances throughout her journey seem to serve as checkups for her and Issun to make sure they're on the right path, and of course, to help them along in his own way. Waka doesn't mind coming off as a bad guy if he knows in the end, what he does will be of help to them. Even being called heartless by Issun after the death of Queen Himiko doesn't sway him outwardly - he knows he can't change the past, and he knows Himiko doesn't regret her sacrifice, and never will.
Normally his confident and slightly arrogant demeanour make others believe he's a little self absorbed, and...that's entirely right. Waka, despite his inner guilt he keeps hidden, is confident in himself in every way and even goes as far as to call himself "God's gift to man" the 'first' time he meets Amaterasu in Agata Forest. He's incredibly flamboyant, in style and speech, slipping in bits and pieces of French words here and there, even going as far as to call people 'baby' or shouting 'let's rock!' before a battle. Despite his eccentric garb and battle style, Waka is still a force to be taken seriously no matter the situation.
Waka has a deep regret and guilt about what he unleashed on the Celestials (he even has stained-glass and statue replicas of Celestials in the Tao Trooper floating island) and the people of Nippon, and instead of hiding in fear and sadness, he's taken it upon himself to try to right his wrongs. He fervently seeks the way to make things right, and will do everything in his power to find a way to do just that. He's very secretive, and doesn't trust in just anybody, only opening up to Amaterasu herself, and Queen Himiko - he even keeps his loyal Tao Troopers in the dark, even though they see him working with incredibly advanced Moon technology almost daily.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Waka's most notable power is that he can see into the future: it's unknown how constantly he can 'see', but once in awhile he will use that he views to help people in the ways of little prophecies, executed flamboyantly and with energy. Just handing people the answers to everything isn't fun after all. He is also capable of 'flight' and 'gliding', and has been seen leaving Agata Forest by jumping high into the air, before disappearing after gliding away. While not exactly being flight, it's a bit more than your usual jumping abilities. He can 'phase' through certain attacks, shown when Amaterasu attempts to head butt him outside of battle, and has been seen teleporting entirely without any sort of visible magic or incantations.
Despite being a game centred in a very feudal Japan-esque land, Waka is from the Moon Tribe, a highly advanced race of beings that...lived on the moon. It's been shown on many occasions that the Moon Tribe have floating/flying machinery, holographic computers, and in Waka's case, can even make beam swords - so Waka will be understand electronics and other 'advanced' technology for the world of Nippon with ease and not bat an eyelash. Waka is skilled at playing the flute, and while it seems simple and wooden, it transforms into his trusty beam sword 'Pillow Talk', and along with it he uses a normal katana as well. Despite his eccentric two-sword fighting style, he's very formidable, speedy, and powerful.
Walking on water is nothing to him, and he even stands on it for a long period of time in Agata Forest while speaking with Amaterasu and Issun. His ability to dispel barriers is shown as well, when her uses the Serpent Crystal and his flute to break the barrier surrounding Orochi's Moon Cave. It's assumed that small barriers will be nothing for him to handle, while he would require some form of help to break bigger ones (like using the Serpent Crystal's power). In North Ryoshima Coast, Waka dispels an entire Cursed Zone on his own without any help - something only Amaterasu is shown being able to do, utilizing her Bloom brush technique regained from one of the Hanagami Trio of Gods. While not being able to utilize the brush techniques himself, Waka still possesses many holy powers of his own from being a 'Tao Master'; having to only play a few notes on his flute to pull off a miracle like making a Guardian Sapling bloom and cleanse the land. Normally he doesn't go through the trouble of doing 'big' things like this though, preferring to do things the quick and easy way; like having Amaterasu handle it instead.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
Waka has the skin of a killer; he is always sparkling. A wink releases sparkles, jumping releases sparkles, flipping his headdress releases sparkles, playing flute sparkles. Everything he does, he does with sparkles. Everything.
He also drops bits of French into his conversations, little expressive words like 'fantastic' or 'magnificent', and calls Amaterasu 'my dear' almost constantly instead of her real name. Naturally I'll be using these words as I RP, and I'll try to stick to the ones used in canon only, because I am entirely sure he is in no way fluent in French.
[ Sample ] : video ;
Well well well! What a familiar scene this is. [Deja-vu, Vatheon. An eccentrically-dressed man is standing with his hands on his hips, soaked to the bone, yet still faintly sparkling. He looks to his left, then his right, before turning around and pointing a long flute at the giant coral behind him.]
It's been awhile, baby! Brought me back for a little fun, ah big boy? [And a beat as he glances at his tiny fairy companion.] As silent as ever, aren't you, little one?
[He draws back his flute, tapping his shoulder with it as he focuses on the video screen. He smiles his usual cat-like smile, eyes closed so not to show off more emotion than he'd like. Truthfully he's pleased as can be to come back here.]
It's nice to see you again, Vatheon. Ma chérie? Are you there? I do hope you've kept everything in order for me while I was gone, hm?
Drop me a line, baby, and I'll fly right over! [He extends his pinky finger and thumb, other fingers drawn tight around his flute as he thrusts his hand forward toward the screen.
Same old Waka.]
Old Sample:
I foresee a deep, wet adventure! [A rather eccentrically-dressed man is seen with his fingers splayed out in front of him in an odd motion. He seems to be sparkling faintly despite...looking completely soaked to the bone and slightly miserable.
Slowly he lowers his hand, looking around the area around him slowly, before relaxing and taking a beat to think. He crosses his arms, tilting his head to the side as he speaks. He gently taps a small, modest-looking flute against his shoulder.] ...but this prophecy came a little late, hm? This is certainly nowhere I've been baby, and I could have done without the bath.
[He extends his arms in a slow, yet grand sweeping motion before leaving them suspended in mid-air. Waka turns to look behind him, folding his arms again as he stares at the giant thing of coral behind him. Well then.] Hm? You can't help me out, can you, big boy? Or you, little one?
[The small shining fairy hovering by his shoulder doesn't react, of course.] So cold! The silent treatment all around - why, it's like I'm talking to
ma chérie all over again. Heh heh heh heh...
He steps forward, taking his little starfish-shaped device up off... whatever it was placed on and smiles ever-so-brightly at whoever's watching.] My powers aren't working quite like they should be; forgive me for not being able to find you right away,
ma chérie. Excusez-moi but could you come visit me instead?
[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] : Waka is a pretty powerful dude in terms of his 'holy powers' and skills. While being weakened in Vatheon, I'd like for his prophetic powers to remain intact. I'd like it so that he'll need to focus in order to properly and accurately see whatever visions come to him, instead of them coming as easily as breathing. For most events he wont be interested in things like warning people or spreading the word, but if it's something big he'll certainly leave a vague prophecy on it.
The rest of his powers will be halved accordingly; jumping so high he's flying wont be as possible, he cant stand/walk on water for infinity now, etc.
