Next week,
Hey Monday will release a brand-new version of their celebrated song, ‘Candles,’ which has been updated with a new arrangement and re-recorded vocals by lead singer Cassadee Pope. The song will also come with a previously unreleased demo of the track, and a new song called ‘The One That Got Away.’
“As musicians and as people, we have grown so much in the last three years,” Cassadee tells JSYK exclusively. “I think the new ‘Candles’ really reflects that with its richer textures and more sophisticated arrangement. It’s more uplifting now, as well, and translates really well live!”
The ballad, which appears on the band’s debut album, ‘Hold on Tight,’ is a big fan favorite, which, according to the singer, is about a “difficult break-up” from when she was 17. The song, she says, acted as her “therapy session.”
“It’s more organic sounding now,” Cassadee adds. “I was able to re-record the vocals and pretty much sing the song exactly like I do live.”
Fans of Hey Monday’s latest release, ‘Beneath It All,’ should be extra excited about scoring the bonus song, ‘The One That Got Away,’ which was recorded during the same sessions.
The new ‘Candles’ song bundle will be available on
iTunes on Tuesday, February 8. Until then, you can listen to the new version of the song on
AOL Radio, and check out what
Cassadee’s five must-haves for tour are here.
